Taking One For the Team Raen wasn't expecting such a massive tug on his whole body. He hardly had time to notice that Zexion had summoned a massive cyclone before the tug made him slip on the patch of ice he had formed. " Ah, shit!" He clawed at the ground, trying to find some sort of purchase. However, that wasn't to be found, and he knew that this wouldn't be pleasant. " Well, may as well make it easier on myself." Closing his eyes, he felt his heart beat faster as the sound of the wind roared louder in his ears. Just as he was about to be sucked up a massive coating of ice covered the ground around him, and sped him straight into the cyclone's wrath. He heard Lanying shout something, but couldn't really make it out. Between the roaring winds and being pelted by all sorts of crap, he wasn't really paying attention anyway. Without warning, everything went black. He tried to move, but found himself paralyzed by some invisible, suffocating force. Then a bright light consumed him, and he found himself flying at an amazing speed away from Zexion towards a massive rock--the cyclone dispelled. In that brief moment before impact, he saw Lanying skid along one of the ice patches and hurl a massive rock at the book. Raen thanked his lucky stars that she threw it after he got blasted out of the book. And if she managed to disarm Zexion, he hoped that she could take him out. And then he hit the hulking mass of stone. While most of the damage was absorbed by Frost's Baptism, it still knocked the wind out of him, and made him black out for a split second. Coming too, he was completely disoriented, couldn't tell where Lanying or Zack were, and he had completely forgotten about the Neoshadows. He tried to stand, but could barely get up at the moment--his head was throbbing and his vision was blurred. After a few seconds, struggling, he finally got up and was leaning against the rock, finding all three Neoshadows converging on him. " Well, at least they're attracted to the darkness in me rather than them..." He laughed a little at that, but it came out as more of a weak cough than anything else. Holding Fimbulvetr out front, he was expecting the worst, but wouldn't go down without a fight. [Raen used Frost's Baptism, four posts until next use]

You Picked the Wrong Shadow to Fight With Zexion did not move from his position, not one to move unless he needed to. The two fighters he did not know by name used their resources, the male stabbing his sword into the ground and holding onto it while the woman held onto a boulder. The Neoshadows were still present, one of them now destroyed. After they were all destroyed, the fight would take a different turn and Zexion would have a little more work on his hands; he would be handling three fighters at once if that occurred and he knew that the possibility of losing that battle were much higher.
Raen was the only one to fall into the Cyclone's wrath, though the girl had been close as well. Zexion briefly let his Lexicon go, letting it go straight into the middle of the cyclone and capture Raen. The whirlwind started to dissipate, the Lexicon traveling back to Zexion's grasp as Raen was shot out of it at high speeds. Just afterward, with lucky timing on their part, the woman shot a rock at the Schemer's book. He tightened his grip on said weapon, not letting it get knocked out of his hands when the rock hit. She seemed to be trying to disarm him, which he supposed was a smart move on her part; however, it would more than a fist-sized rock to do the trick.
With the whirlwind gone, he now needed to plan what he would do next. The woman should surely continue attacking him, especially since she was closer to him than before. The Neoshadows were attracted to Raen, keeping him busy; they would do so for a while, those particular Heartless difficult to take down. However, this was not what Zexion was thinking about in these quick seconds. The other male fighter had a choice either to continue helping his friend or help Lanying, which he needed to prepare for. Either way, distance needed to be put in between him and them.
Or... perhaps not. He grinned, the Lexicon glowing briefly again before the Schemer disappeared almost completely. He had ten seconds to spare at the moment, which he used to run at the woman. Fortunately, there was not that much distance between the two of them. Even if sh did hit him while he was mostly invisible, he could still use this next part of the attack. Once he reached her, he remained invisible and shot out his left hand toward her.
"You brought this upon yourself," he told her snidely, darkness shooting out of his hand straight toward her. It was her choice to pick a fight with him, a member of the Organization.

Not Enough Strength
Somehow, Lanying avoided the worst of the cyclone. Raen, however, did not. She saw him go flying into the middle of the column of wind and then get...sucked into the book. Had she had time to be shocked and awed, she would have expressed it in some way. He was almost immediately shot out of the book and straight into a large rock nearby. For what felt like days, he was still. The three Neoshadows that were left were slinking toward him, drawn by the growing darkness in his heart.
Get up, get up, get up.
She could not help him, though. With the whirlwind gone, she was no longer being pulled inexorably toward Zexion. But he seemed eager to close the remaining gap between them. That book of his glowed again, but this time, he nearly vanished in lieu of summoning wind. She knew he was still there, because she could clearly see his book. It did not stay in one place for long, unfortunately. She should have been able to outmaneuver him. He was not moving at lightning speeds. But the cyclone had already taxed her strength, and the distance between them was close already.
His voice taunted her right before darkness flooded her immediate field of vision. The pain was excruciating, and in that moment, she would have chosen being consumed and then spat out by that book over this. She reeled, stumbling back a few paces, then collapsed onto her knees. Her hands found the ground in order to steady herself and prevent her from falling completely onto her face. This was what it felt like to lose utterly.
She was not even sure she was seeing everything properly. Her head was swimming. Though, she thought she could make out Raen holding his sword toward the three Neoshadows. At least he was still alive for now. She probably would not be able to say the same for herself in the next five minutes. Her only consolation was that the emperor was not here to personally witness her failure. She would die without that shame upon her head.
"I may have brought it upon myself...but are you going to finish it?" She lifted her head slowly to fix Zexion with a steady gaze. Fear was absent. Only a faint hint of regret was present. She had not been strong enough, and now she would face the consequences of that weakness.

Zack had been holding on to his sword for dear life, trying his best not to get sucked into the cyclone that had appeared. He heard Lanying yell something, but couldn't really make it out. He looked over and saw Raen getting sucked in, and he unfortunately slipped on the ice he had formed and fell into the cyclone. Zack could only watch as he got sucked in, since if he did anything he'd get sucked in too. Raen was then shot out from a book all of a sudden at a boulder or something and Zack winced as he saw it, man that looked like it hurt.
He took his sword out of the ground, though it took a pull or two to do so. He then watched as Lanying attempted to get the book out of Zexion's hands but it didn't work. And unfortunately Zexion countered, hard. He had disappeared all of a sudden, and then out of nowhere Lanying got blasted by a huge thing of darkness. She didn't look like she had taken the blow very well. He looked over and saw Raen was starting to get up, but the three neoshadows were closing in on him.
What do I do? he thought to himself. He was the only one at the moment who hadn't been gravely injured it seemed. He didn't want to leave either of them alone. However, he couldn't think long on it and so he sprang into action. He rushed over to Raen, going for the closest heartless. He slashed it twice, and he was pleasantly surprised that it disappeared. He must have gotten lucky and chosen the one that Raen had already weakened. "Hope you can handle the other two, Raen!" he told him as he ran past, now aiming for Zexion and Lanying. Lanying looked in worse shape than Raen, so she needed his help more.
As he ran over, his sword started to glow. He felt faster now, much faster. He should be able to do some damage to this guy, hopefully enough so that he would go away. Because even though Zack was quite the optimist, he knew they didn't really have much of a chance of winning at this rate. As soon as he was close enough he yelled, "And this is what I bring upon you!" He then started attacking Zexion furiously, his blows almost a blur.

Keeping Hands Clean... For Now He had managed to weaken his opponent with the darkness, bringing her to her knees. At this moment, he could choose to finish the battle by finishing her, something he would have no issue with doing as a Nobody. He could not feel conviction, remorse or even satisfaction; he could not feel any of the emotions that were connected to killing another.
However, there was one principle that he had always kept that was currently standing in his way. In the past, he preferred to never let his hands get dirty, leaving the dirty work for others to attend to. He only resorted to it when there was a need for him to; in the case of Riku, he had to stop the Keyblade Bearer from becoming a further nuisance to the Organization. In this case, was it the same? Not truly, but these three could be considered nuisances to the Organization if they got much further. That was his answer then.
Before he managed to make a move, the other fighter seemed to decide to interfere. Zexion didn't have time to block, the other man's attacks hitting him quickly and mercilessly. He made a "tch" sound as he was sent flying, landing somewhat near the edge of the little island. His breathing was slightly ragged as he quickly got to his feet, though it would take a lot more than a few hits from a sword to take this illusionist down. He glanced at Raen briefly, seeing only two of the Neoshadows remaining. Shortly then, he would have all three fighters against him if the girl managed to stand and Raen was not too weak from getting sent into a rock. He was more than capable of handling them though, if need be.
"Is this all that the heroes can manage to do?" he asked with a grin on his face, "Simply deplorable." He rushed at the male that attacked him, closing the distance and threw his Lexicon straight at the hero.

Losing Control Raen's heart practically stopped when he saw Lanying go down from Zexion's attack. And then he seemed to black out for a moment--but he didn't lose consciousness. He was still standing when he came too, but the feeling was completely constricting and he felt like he had just left his body. Was that the darkness in his heart trying to take hold? Gritting his teeth, he tried to turn his focus to the remaining three Neoshadows. He wouldn't lose control now--not after what he said. He would control that darkness. He was taken by surprise when Zack seemed to appear out of thin air and kill the weakened Neoshadow. Raen didn't mind that Zack left to assist Lanying--she needed help much more than he did. He smirked a little when Zack landed all of those hits on Zexion, thinking to himself, " Hope that hurt, you son of a bitch." And then that feeling came over him again--that feeling of constriction and weightlessness, but it seemed to last slightly longer and was more powerful. This needed to end quickly. Seeing one of the Heartless tentatively leap forward and slash with his claws, Raen attempted to dodge, and while he did avoid the attack, it came out more like a stumble than anything. " Dammit...I can't keep this up." Slashing in front of him, his attack only cut the wind. The other Heartless took advantage of that and leaped into the air, flying straight into Raen, ramming its head into his gut and slamming him against the rock. Then it happened: for the third time, that constricting feeling took over, and even though he could see, he didn't feel like he was in his body. His body began to act independent of his own thoughts. Moving in a way he didn't think he even could, he ran towards the Neoshadow that just hit him and impaled the creature through its chest, ripping the blade out the side, and then sliding behind the creature he stabbed it in the back of the head, killing it. Whipping around to face the remaining Heartless, he quite literally pounced on the Heartless with a strength that wasn't his, pinning it to the ground. Using his free hand he lifted its head and slammed it into the rocky ground, stunning it. Standing up, he plunged his blade into the Heartless' stomach and sliced clean through the torso and head, watching it burst into a cloud of darkness. Coming too, it felt like he just woke up from a nightmare. His legs completely gave way and he fell to the ground, a cold sweat coming over him. He had let the darkness control him for that instance, despite his mind screaming for release. He felt terrible that he had let it happen, but to a part of him if felt good. Amazingly so. But as he was right now, he doubted that he could fight without letting the darkness take over again.

Cannot Quit Now
She may have preferred death, to be honest. And now that Zack's actions had denied her that, or at least delayed it, she was left to struggle with her own thoughts and feelings. It was not self-pity that prompted her desire for her own demise, no. She had dishonored her emperor and her people by falling so quickly. If she lacked the strength to defend herself from the darkness, there was no way she could protect so many others from a much greater threat.
For the moment, she was too weak to do much to help Zack. Even Zexion's attempt at wounding with words did nothing to move her. She had no idea why he was calling the three of them heroes. Being a hero was more Zack's personal concern. Lanying did not particularly care about being one. She knew she was not one, especially after her failure to fight back effectively. So, for now, she was content to stay where she was. The desire to close her eyes and go to sleep suddenly came over her.
The sounds of Heartless being ripped apart snapped her focus onto Raen. A small chill went down her spine. Someone who had been as weak as he had should not be able to move like that. The way he cut down the Heartless was ruthlessly efficient. He did not stay in that state for too long, for once the Heartless were gone, Raen seemed to wake up in a way and then promptly collapsed onto the ground. Whatever had happened must have involved the darkness. There was no other explanation for what she had just seen.
Knowing she could not do anything being as weak as she was, Lanying found her voice and began to sing. The water in the sea stirred in response to her song, granting her its power for a moment. Refreshment flowed through her, easing the agony that was still throbbing dully in her chest. She felt somewhat rejuvenated, though she was not nearly at her full strength even now. But at least she could stand, which she did then.
Her bow would do for now. She was unwilling to get close to Zexion again. Ever again, probably. The bowstring tightened as she drew the end of an arrow back to her ear. She murmured, "I have had enough of you. And your ridiculous hair," and let the arrow fly. Immediately after, she began to sing once more. Water slowly danced in response.

Zack managed to take Zexion by surprise and land as many blows as he could. Unfortunately, he all he had done was push him back towards the water's edge, though Zexion did seem to have been breathing a bit heavier. However, it wasn't good enough. He was still fighting and at the moment, Zack was the only one able to put up a fight with him. He was confident in his abilities, but he still wasn't quite sure what this guy could do, especially if there were more tricks up his sleeves like the previous ones.
He wanted to see how Raen and Lanying were doing, but he couldn't focus his attention on them right now, as soon that Zexion guy rushed him and threw his book at him. He deflected the book with his sword, though he was surprised the book wasn't sliced up in any way. He also found it odd to be using a book as a weapon, after all it didn't seem like it would be all that affective of a weapon to Zack.
He heard singing coming from behind him, realizing it was Lanying. He wasn't sure what she was doing but soon after he heard her release an arrow at Zexion. It looked like she had managed to heal herself somehow, at least enough to continue on, which was a relief for Zack, it meant he had at least a little bit of back-up now. Out of the corner of his eye, he had noticed Raen had managed to take out the other two neoshadows somehow, but he didn't look like he was in much shape to do much more now. Zack would make sure to take care of this guy so Raen could get some rest.
He smirked at his opponent. "Glad you think I'm a hero already," he told him as he went for a slash using his sword with one hand. Though it was a feint, as he stopped short and used his other hand to go for a punch to the guy's face. He wasn't normally one for sneaky tactics, but this guy was getting on his nerves and he seemed like a sneaky person himself. Sometimes the only way to counter sneaky was by being sneaky yourself.

Let's Make Things A Little More Unfair Fair The Lexicon was deflected, sending it straight back to Zexion once again. He paused for a moment, his eyes flicking quickly over to Raen to check his progress with the Neoshadows. The man should be having at least some difficulty, especially after being shot out of the Lexicon at high speed. However, his movements were unusually quick as he took down the remaining Heartless and then collapsed, coming out of what seemed like a trance. The Schemer could not help but grin to this; the darkness was already attempting to take control of him and he let it. It would not be so easy to fight it off the next time, though he was not about to give Raen the benefit of knowing that.
Faint singing was heard, causing him to look to the woman now. She was healing herself, gaining the ability to stand once more and shoot another arrow at him. Zexion did not move, the arrow going straight into his upper chest. He let out a groan of pain from it, the force sending him back a couple of feet. He at least remained standing, the arrow still embedded there. He did not have time to do anything with it, the other quickly deciding to attack him, seemingly glad that Zexion gave him the label of hero. There were reasons for that, the man in front of him almost like a less naïve Sora, the girl a stronger Kairi. Raen was almost exactly like Riku to him.
He did not have time to think about that though, the man attacking him with his sword in one hand. Zexion went to block it with the Lexicon, though found the man's other hand quickly meeting his face in the form of a punch. It connected, sending the illusionist back a ways and knocking him down. He brought a quick hand to his face, feeling if anything was broken before standing once again with a grin of his own. He took the arrow out of his chest and threw it to the ground; unlike normal circumstances, there was not a speck of blood on the arrow nor was there any on Zexion's face. After all, Nobodies weren't exactly human.
He had a decision to make now, looking at his three opponents and studying them. Raen was weak, though he would not be if he let the darkness control him. The other male had a fair amount of energy left to him while the girl was standing; whether or not she would run at him again was questionable, though she had her long ranged weapon. His options weren't limited at the moment: he could escape this fight and remove the risk of further damage to his person or finish it off in a few different ways. Unless Raen let the darkness control him completely, he was not about to be fighting anymore. Yes... Zexion could end this and he could do it spectacularly. His Lexicon glowed briefly again, its pages rapidly turning; yes, he was going to give them a bit of a light show.
"Three against one?" Though, he was going to need a little bit of help with that light show. Around the small island, surrounding the group of fighters, four copies of himself were made with copies of the Lexicon. "That is a bit more even now isn't it?" All five of them now started creating a sphere of light in the middle of the fighting area.

Last Attempt His heart was beating slowly, but each pulse felt like a punch to his chest. Breathing slowly, he managed to get into into a kneeling position and see how Zack and Lanying were faring. A wave of relief washed over him as he saw Lanying get up and start healing herself with a rather haunting song, then stand up and fire an arrow right into Zexion. Seeing Zack nail the Nobody with a punch to the face also gave him a little bit more hope for their current predicament--maybe they were going to win this fight after all. The sooner the better: the darkness was coming back. And then Zexion paused, looking at each of them. The pages of his book started to turn, increasing in speed. " There's five of you?" He thought his eyes were playing tricks, but it was true--Zexion cloned himself, and now they were all sending some sort of energy into a massive sphere in the center of the island. Looking behind himself, Raen saw one of the clones about seven feet away. Picking up his rapier, he tapped the very tip of the blade to the ground, sending a thin line of ice towards the clone. The line of ice stopped just in front of it as a blade of instantly shot up from the ground, tearing through the fabrication. The burst of light upon its destruction made Raen turn his head away and wince, but his vision was only whited out for a few seconds. Calling out to the other two, he warned, " Be careful when you destroy these things! Don't look at them when you do!" That was about all that he could do for now. He Has Got to be Running Out of Tricks at Some Point
There were no words to describe how great it felt to watch her arrow actually pierce its target. It also felt good to watch Zack punch Zexion in the face. Really good. The only way that could have felt better was if Lanying had punched him herself. Her joy was short-lived, however, for the Nobody eventually regained his composure and tore the arrow out of his chest. Her eyebrow arched slightly when she saw not even a trace of blood. Of course, she realized that Nobodies did not have hearts, but the correlation between having no heart and also having no blood had never occurred to her. Next time, she would aim for his head.
One day, when I have grown much stronger, I will find this Nobody again and rip that book to shreds. And then I will punch him in the face for good measure. Yes, I will certainly look forward to that day.
The book-turned-weapon was glowing yet again, which they all knew by now was not a good sign. Zexion was not joking when he said something about evening the odds. In addition to himself, four other copies of Zexion appeared in a circle and began creating what appeared to be an orb of light in the center of the island. This confused her to no end. He could attack with both darkness and light? There was not time to ponder this, however. Raen had already taken out one of the clones with ice, but he did not look like he would be able to do much else. That left three clones plus the real Zexion for her and Zack to worry about.
A couple of arrows ought to do the trick. The clone Raen had taken out had fallen easily enough. Zexion might have been able to survive an arrow to the chest, but she would bet that the clones would not be so lucky. Her bowstring sang as she sent two arrows in quick succession toward what turned out to be another copy. The first arrow struck it in the chest, the second banished it completely after piercing its head. She made sure to shield her eyes from the brightness of the small explosion that resulted, though she did not have to worry about getting caught in it. Hopefully, Zack could take care of the rest.
She had almost forgotten about her second song until water rose from the sea and began drifting toward her. She had originally intended it to protect herself, but after looking at Raen again, he seemed in much worse shape than she did. And, since she was unsure what this sphere of light was going to do and how it might affect Raen considering he had opened himself to the darkness, she bade the water go to him. The liquid barrier wrapped him in at least some protection. Whether or not it would be enough remained to be seen.
[Summary: Lanying has shielded Raen; the barrier will remain in effect until Raen's next post. Posts until next use: 3 Uses remaining: 2]

As Zack rushed to attack, he saw the arrow connect Zexion and hit him in the chest, which was good. Afterwords his feint had worked and he felt his fist connected with Zexion's face. He had knocked him down and it was very satisfying to have landed that particular blow, surprisingly so. He couldn't remember a time where managing to land a blow had been so enjoyable, it must have been because Zexion had been really getting on his nerves.
Unfortunately, the guy wasn't giving up yet and the arrow didn't even seem to phase him as he pulled it out. It was kind of creepy to see, especially since there was no blood. "What exactly is this guy?" he asked aloud as he watched, preparing to strike. However, that book of his started glowing and then all of a sudden there were four more of him than before. There was also an orb of light forming and that didn't look good.
He then heard Raen speak, apparently having already gotten rid of one of the clones and warning them not to look at them when they were destroyed. He then saw two arrows fly past, towards another clone, it being destroyed as well. Well it looked like that left the last two for him to take out. He rushed over to the closest one and slashed it twice, turning and moving away and closing his eyes as it exploded. He then rushed towards the last clone, closing his eyes as he aimed for its head, feeling it connect as he ran past, stopping a short distance away.
He then opened his eyes and turned towards Zexion. He started rushing at him, hoping he could stop him before the attack was finished. When he got close enough, he jumped up, bringing his sword down towards Zexion as he came back down.

With Conviction The clones were easily destroyed by the three of them, all four of them gone without a trace. Zexion paid this no heed and instead looked to the sphere of light that had gathered in the middle of the area. It was not quite as big as it could be, no, but it would suffice. Without wasting a moment, he sent his Lexicon straight for the sphere. The other male started coming toward him after that throw, though it was only mere seconds later that the sphere of light exploded. Zexion merely stood in the midst of the explosion, thinking; if he calculated correctly, this would hopefully keep the male fighter from embedding his sword into the Nobody. It could also very well signal near the end of the fight.
The Schemer had a decision to make with that now. Naturally, he had more abilities up his sleeve and he could also reuse previous ones. Even with the woman's healing abilities, he doubted the fighters would last much longer against him; it was not his arrogance speaking this time, but pure fact. While the Nobody was not the strongest the Organization had to offer, he was more than capable of fighting for himself. This would end up being one of the rare chances where he would be able to end his opponent. However, did he truly need to? Did he need to end his opponents here and now?
The one principle that Zexion almost always stuck to was keeping his hands clean, letting others do the dirty work for him; disposing of others was one of the things that counted as dirty work, a task that had been left to Vexen and Lexaeus inside of Castle Oblivion. The idea of disposing of others was not something Zexion was generally opposed to, but he typically avoided it when he could. He gazed at the scene around him after the wake of the explosion. The fighters seemed determined to end him and would continue to do so until they could no longer move. Though, he had to wonder why; he had not been the one to send Raen into darkness. In fact, he merely told the truth about the darkness; he did not persuade Raen to go either way, yet all of them seemed hellbent on destroying a Nobody that had not inflicted harm on them outside of combat.
The results of this fight would also be worthless; the three fighters would likely not get in the way of the Organization's plans and Zexion was not a Nobody who constantly meddled in the lives of others. Aside from that, Raen could sooner or later end up as a tool if he truly lent himself to darkness completely; all of them essentially had potential, but Raen had the most. If his heart turned to darkness and he turned into a Heartless, that would be enough for Zexion. The Heartless, after all, were the tools of the Organization and needed if they wanted their own hearts back. Though, the Schemer was not about to say all of these facts. Instead, he kept his eyes on the three of them.
"This battle is unnecessary," he told them in his empty monotone, his Lexicon disappearing, "You may not like the words I say, but the proof of their validity is right before your eyes." He cast his gaze to Raen. "You have already started to become consumed by the darkness. If you are not careful, it will consume you entirely. I do not believe you want to completely share my fate." He grinned slightly to this; he was unsure why Raen was comparing himself to Zexion, but the Nobody found it slightly interesting. There were obvious differences, however; Raen resorted to violence when he did not want anything further to do with Zexion, something the Nobody never would have done.

Nothing Left Seeing all of the clones vanish in a burst of light was very satisfying, but the orb of light still remained. Just as Zack was about to attack Zexion, the Nobody tossed his book into the middle of the sphere, causing it to explode. If it wasn't for Lanying's water shield, the attack probably would've knocked him out cold, but luckily most of the damage was absorbed by the water. Still, that didn't stop the blast from knocking him off balance and knocking him flat on the stone. His vision was blurred from the intensity of the attack, but he could hear Zexion's voice just fine. The fight was unnecessary? Raen couldn't deny that. When Zexion stated to him that everything he said was true, and that the darkness was already prevalent and could send him down the path to becoming a Nobody, Raen simply laughed. Rolling onto his side and getting back up on one knee, he looked at Zexion, smiling. " I never once denied what you said. I knew the consequences from the very beginning. That makes this conversation just as unnecessary as the fight." Saying that suddenly made him look to see if Lanying and Zack made it out of the attack okay, but he still couldn't clearly see. He hoped that they were.

Being hit with an attack yet again was not quite so bad this time around. The ball of light exploded just as soon as Zexion hit it with his book, which caused a good chunk of the island to be engulfed in an explosion. Everything was white for a few seconds, and even when she knew it was over, she still could not see very well. Of course, seeing did not matter too much at the moment. She had been tossed several feet back by the force of the explosion and was now lying on her stomach. She might have had the strength to get up, but she really preferred not to move at this point. She never knew stone could feel so good against her cheek.
When nothing happened for several minutes, Lanying began to wonder where Zexion had gone. But then he spoke again, which almost made her jump--or stumble, rather--to her feet and attempt to strangle him. This fight was unnecessary, was it? So wonderful that he had decided this only after nearly killing her. She wondered how unnecessary he might have found the fight had she been the one bringing him to within an inch of his life. Or whatever it was Nobodies had.
She saw her water barrier dissipate from around Raen as he moved to one knee. He was laughing, but it did not logically follow that it was a good thing in this situation. At least he was already aware of the consequences when he made his choice. If he had jumped into this without a modicum of thought, she probably would have wanted to punch him in the face just as much as she wanted to do the same to Zexion.
Without moving, she decided to speak. It was almost as though she thought that any movement might set Zexion off again, and he would pull that book back out. Besides, it was nice to lie down. "In the end, words do not really matter. Actions will determine your fate, not words. And you will not lose yourself to the darkness as long as I am here. I refuse to allow it." The gaze she fixed upon Raen was dead serious. "Do you understand me?"
