Some of you know that this isn't coming out of the blue. For those who don't, surprise, I guess.
I am taking an indefinite leave of absence, which probably means I'm not coming back here again. I've had my fill of the drama and the arguing and the “miscommunication” and the constant backtracking and whatnot. Call it what you like, it's no longer fun.
I probably would have done this sooner, but I really was excited about doing several things on the site, especially the new stuff with Ethan and the unexpected developments with Axel and Cloud eventually catching up to Aerith. But I can't take feeling that I'm not appreciated for how hard I work to make good content for this site.
Yeah, that's right. I read the backlog from last night. All of it. And it left a very poor taste in my mouth. You don't give someone a position and then fire her for working her ass off, especially without talking to her first about it. Yeah, it works that way in the real business world, but we aren't running a business for profit here, are we? This is a damn internet site, and it has never grown much larger than the core group we have now. Yet, it was perfectly fine to have this many mods before all this shit happened. I fail to see the connection between “We should change the rules and change character abilities” and “We should get rid of mods.”
And it isn't just me you're firing. You're also firing Matt, who has been staff longer than Dan has, who it seems you are promoting to admin (no offense meant to you, Dan, of course). Matt does his fair share of modding whenever he can, and even though he's a slower poster than most, he still posts eventually. I've been on sites where people take weeks or even months to post. On top of that, Matt is usually the one always trying to be the voice of reason in any arguments that break out. He also tries to do his job to the best of his abilities. And you're just going to kick him off for no adequately explored reason. The best I can tell is that you don't want him on staff because you don't like him or find him annoying or something.
Therefore, I can't help but feel that this all some backlash or punishment for something I didn't even do. I don't care how many times you utter the tired platitude “Oh, it's nothing personal,” I think it is. Or at least it's fueled by something personal. And it's terrible management. Terrible, terrible management. If you thought you could fire people without said people becoming bitter about it, you don't have much real-world experience.
So, I'm sorry for working hard trying to make my characters interesting, and I'm sorry for working hard to write quality posts, and I'm sorry for doing the job I was told to do, and I'm sorry for being one of the main people who maintained the timeline for a while, and I'm sorry for trying to contribute to this site at all. I feel like I have been taken for granted. And I'm not going to stick around and keep feeling that way.
I love RPing and I love writing, but I can do that elsewhere. I suppose this really does boil down to “creative differences,” after all. Personally, I was still having fun, even though everyone else apparently wasn't. And no, it's not because I play Nadia. I have other characters, characters who haven't even met Jericho or who have hardly interacted with him, and I was having fun with them.
But now, all the fun is gone, and I don't think it can ever come back. Now, the site is going to devolve into making a bunch of rules that should have been in place to begin with. Now, we all have to backtrack and retcon because apparently, the mods weren't actually doing a good job in the first place.
I can't get rid of this sick, hurt feeling in my stomach. Sorry, this all came out in a huge ramble or whatever, but it's how I've started to feel for a while now. So, I'm gone. And Slash and Matt are coming with me, since it's obvious that certain parties don't like them very much.
There. I'm leaving the rest of you with a drama-free site. Enjoy it.
