A flash of light, a shroud of darkness, a boy with silver hair. This boy seems older than his years, perhaps from the events his young form has born witness to. A keyblade appeared in his hand. Way to the Dawn, the boy thought. No, he was a man, maybe not in years, but in the way he held himself.
Shadow leapt at him and he struck it away. I've come a long way, Riku remarked in himself, blessedly alone and without the corrupting influence of Ansem, Xehanort's Heartless. He had conquered the darkness within himself, and given up his form for his friend...but it was given back to him by fate, and he was given his home back.
But his restless and inquisitive nature wouldn't let him stay. He traveled out of the world, leaving Kairi and Sora to do what they would. He offered the both of them a part in his grand adventure, but before they could answer, he had already left, leaving the two with hardly a note to tell them that he had left.
Traveling around the worlds for that time, Riku used his keyblade to fight the Heartless. He didn't make new friends, but he waited for Sora to search him out, knowing that the challenge he put in the note wouldn't be ignored.
Dear Sora,
This note is just to let you know, in case you didn't pick up on it yet--you never know with you--that I left already, and without you. I'm going off to journey the worlds, like they are supposed to be this time. No raft involved.
I figure, if the keyblade is going to choose a couple of idiots, at least we can honor its wishes by fighting the darkness, right? And you could even bring those two dimwits you kept company with, if they'd come.
I'm sure Kairi'll forgive you if you head out. After all, who'd let an opportunity like this get passed up?
In case that doesn't get you, I dare you.
-Riku
Of course, Riku thought as he slashed across a second Shadow, Sora might not have found the note yet. He's not one to use his minds... As a third Shadow fell to the keyblade, Riku laughed to himself. Who knew, maybe Sora would cause a ruckus big enough to bring the King all of the way to Destiny Islands to check up on him.
That thought only incited more laughter. "Oh, Sora, wait until you find me. Then we can fight again, and this one will decide winner." Of course, Riku had no doubt he would win, but Sora could at least have fun trying. Then they could go around and rejoin old friends, and maybe make some new ones. Who knew what would happen, after all, when that lame-minded idiot was involved?
