Goofy was having a rather good day relaxing in his small abode outside of the Castle. It was about time he got time off after everything that had happened with his adventures; him and Donald followed Sora every which way around the galaxy and helped save a lot of worlds. They also managed to find the King, who was eternally pleased at the work they did in the end and returned to the Castle with them. All was well.
”Goofy, wake up! Goofy!
He recognized that voice anywhere; it was the voice of the Queen, Minnie, and it sounded like trouble. He woke up almost instantaneously to this and blinked his eyes open. She was standing not too far from his current spot, her face one of worry and distress.
”What’s the trouble there Minnie?” he asked.
”There’s a strange ship that just landed near the Castle,” she proceeded to tell him. ”It looks really dangerous and no one knows who brought it here. Hurry and go protect the king!”
Well, that was kind of odd. Ships didn’t normally land on Disney Castle all the time, but it usually wasn’t a big threat if they did. This one must be different. Goofy grabbed his shield and nodded to Minnie before quickly leaving his small home. If that was a Heartless ship, then they didn’t have much longer before the attacking started.
He ended up meeting Donald before the Audience Chamber, the duck prepared to fight with his staff in hand. Neither of them knew what they were going to be facing, though they knew that whatever it was, it would come through here. They would be there waiting for them.
A door opened coming from the opposite hallway that Goofy had come from, the two getting into battle stances. However, what they expected was different than what they got. A single man stood at the door, dressed completely in black. They were too far away to see many other features aside from a head of silver hair, not all that different from what Riku’s once was. Though… this definitely was not Riku.
The stranger looked to both of them from afar, taking slow steps toward them. Their boots clicked on the floor, a sly grin on their face. As he approached them, Donald and Goofy recognized who the person looked like, which was most certainly not Riku. It was a stronger opponent they had only seen a couple times, one of the most deadly ones ever to be fought with.
Sephiroth… but not quite.
”And what do we have here?” the stranger asked, his voice sounding young and eerily chipper. ”The King’s loyal subjects.”
”Whoever you are, get out of here right now!” Donald yelled, brandishing his staff, ”You don’t belong here, so scram!”
”There’s no way you’re gonna get through us!” Goofy repeated the sentiment, showing his shield in front of him. The stranger did not seem that phased by this or the words said. Instead, he laughed.
”Oh I think I am,” he said, his voice dropping to nearly a whisper. He reached behind his back with his left hand and drew what Donald and Goofy thought to be an unusual sword. It had two blades on it, though it was about the size of the Kingdom Key in length. The stranger kept his grin as he stared at the two of them, his eyes almost like slits. ”Wanna watch?”
The next few minutes were all but a blur.
--
King Mickey did not like the sounds that he was hearing. At first, there was a bit of dialogue exchanged between his two most loyal subjects and this stranger. Shortly after, the sounds of a clanging sword and yells of frenzy rang in his ears. Donald and Goofy would do their best to defend their king; that was for sure. Though, this did not sound good. His other guards had already fallen too, a sight that he had passed on his way here to safety. Perhaps it had been too long since they had seen combat…
Almost as soon as it started, the noise stopped. Booming silence took over the Castle for a short period of time before the door to the Audience Chamber opened. Mickey prepared himself both mentally and physically; this stranger, whoever he was, wanted to see him for a reason. He didn’t doubt it was a nice one.
The stranger was not all that tall, perhaps only an inch or two above Sora. His hair was silver and around his shoulders, his clothes tight black leather. He walked in slowly just as he did before, his face more blank than anything. Mickey did not remember seeing any person like this before, making him wonder why a complete stranger would want to speak with him.
They arrived at the throne, the two now about three feet apart from each other. The king looked at the man with a determined look on his face. He didn’t know what this man wanted, but he wasn’t about to get away with what he just did.
”Don’t know who I am do you?” the man said smugly, his next words slow. ”Finally, I get to meet the king that made a mess of everything.”
”You’ve caused enough trouble,” Mickey replied sternly, ”You need to leave this Castle.”
”And who’s going to make me? I don’t think there’s anyone else left.” The man paused and grinned, his words somewhat cheerful in sound. It made Mickey a bit cautious and curious about this man. Just who was he?
”Who are you and what are you doing here?” he asked, the two questions straightforward.
”You mean you haven’t guessed already? I thought you were smarter than that Your Majesty.” He laughed and then paused once more, looking straight down at the king with a serious face. ”Kadaj. I came here to have a little chat with you.”
”Welp, what did you want to talk about?” His tone was not all that serious this time, trying to play the same game Kadaj was playing. If he did, then the silver haired one would not see the bit of fear he was feeling. Kadaj just gave off an eerie vibe… and he just so easily gotten past every single one of his guards.
”You should know by now. I mean, it’s so obvious and right there in front of you. I don’t see why you can’t see it.” Mickey was not following exactly what Kadaj meant by this, but he sat quietly and watched the other pace as he continued to speak. ”You don’t see how much you’re hurting the worlds out there. You’re so blinded by the light you hide in that you can’t even see how much damage it’s doing.”
Kadaj’s small and somewhat dramatic speech ended with an ominous drop in tone as he glared at the King. He stepped a bit closer and got down to his level. Mickey now realized his eyes, while a nice shade of green, were slits. He was wondering if this was the end of what Kadaj had to say or if there was more. He decided to interject now.
”What do you mean?” His voice was innocent, which it seemed to be most of the time anyhow.
”The keyblades? It wasn’t so much of a question as it was a statement. ”They’re coming up everywhere, don’t you know?”
”There have been a lot more keyblades coming around lately…” the king mused to himself aloud. Kadaj nodded to this in agreement.
”And they’ve being just what you want them to do. There’s almost no darkness left.”
”That’s how it’s s’posed to be.”
”Really?” Kadaj was still facing him at this point, his single word said slowly and a glare in his eyes. The glare then quickly changed into a smirk. ”Too bad it’s not going to stick that way.” Mickey would have raised his eyebrows if he could, instead choosing to give a curious look to Kadaj as to what he meant by this. The silver haired man took this as a sign to continue.
”Those of the darkness and I have decided not to let this happen anymore. We will all assemble and take on the light and destroy it completely.” Mickey truly wondered why Kadaj sounded so cheerful when he said this. Was this all a game to him? Was he just trying to provoke him? What was really going on here?
”We’ll take on your keyblade masters and we’ll take on your strongest fighters. They won’t be enough to stop us. No, not this time.”
The look he gave Mickey this time was different than the rest. Mickey swore he could see another man’s face in place of his own for a split second, one with longer hair but the same malevolent look on his face. It was gone as quick as it came though. Kadaj stood up in front of him at his full height, looking down on him once more.
”I’m so glad we could have this conversation.” Mickey decided that this man could not stick with one emotion, though that made him dangerous. It made him unpredictable; one would not know what his next move would be. ”I’ll be back Your Majesty. Just be ready for the darkness.”
He turned around and started walking out at a normal pace, not looking back at the king. He thought that went over well. Mickey had barely been able to speak during the entire thing and he now knew what he was up against. The darkness wasn’t going to be playing little games anymore. They had the big guns now.
”Bet you’re dying to watch.”
