Audition:
Castle Oblivion. Such a perfect name for such an empty place. And that’s exactly what it was. Empty. Its white halls: once filled with nothing, were now vacant. What had become of all its inhabitants? Well that was certainly a puzzling question…
In search of answers, Vexen had begun wandering around the castle. Looking for some sort of indication as to what had occurred in his absence. Perhaps it would have been easier to simply return to the World That Never Was. After all, the probability that the pathetic little neophytes had actually managed to overthrown the organization were virtually nonexistent. The mere idea was practically comical. But Vexen wasn’t about to return to the Organization completely unaware of its current situation. Besides, reconnaissance had always been one of his specialties, and it wasn't as if he had anything better to do.
Stepping into the next floor, Vexen was pleased to finally see something of remote significance. The room he was now standing in had serious structural damage. This clearly suggested that a heated battle must have taken place. And based on the style and sheer extent of the damage, he was willing to bet that he was looking at the handiwork of a certain Silent Hero. His opponent had most likely been Riku. The victor? It was impossibly to draw a definite conclusion from such little information. Despite the fact that Vexen found it hard to believe that the boy could best Lexaeus in battle, he also wasn’t about to underestimate Riku. It had been clear from the moment Zexion mentioned his scent that there was a certain likeness between Riku and the Superior. He had at least appeared more interesting than ignorant little Sora. He wondered… what had become of Marluxia’s pawn? No-- there was no point in attempting to speculate before first acquiring the sufficient data. He proceeded on.
Unfortunately, it soon became clear that there wasn’t as much evidence to be found as Vexen had hoped. He discovered that a large portion of his replica research had been destroyed, and also took noticed of the fact that the sleeping pod had been taken by someone. But much to the scientist’s dismay: that was it. How disappointing... Suddenly, he remembered something. Slightly surprised by the simplicity of the solution, he teleported up to the top floor. In the center of the room sat a large device that resembled a crystal ball. It was designed to allow the Organization to monitor the lower floors. And, as the one who had actually created it, Vexen was well aware of how it functioned. Due to his own wish of privacy, it couldn’t be used to view anything in the basement levels, but it would still prove useful enough. He turned to white sphere and began to delve into all of the secrets it held.
Vexen smiled. He had found the good news he was looking for. Larxene and Marluxia had both met their end at the hand of the keyblade warrior that they had tried so hard to control.
How wonderfully ironic. Granted the news wasn’t all good. Axel appeared to have escaped, and Zexion and Lexaeus appeared to have not. The most shocking bit of information was that Ansem of all people had somehow ended up with both Riku and Namine. That would have to be seen to… But in the mean time, it was time he reported back to headquarters. Xemnas would definitely be pleased to learn that he had his brilliant researcher back. Raising his hand, he opened up a dark portal, and walked through it.
