Let’s get the basics down first.
Name: Riku Nicknames: None Age: 17 Gender: Male Race: Human Homeworld: Destiny Islands Alliance: Light
You’re just a puppet aren’t you? Played By: Xemnas Age: 16 Gender: Male Contact: See Nyxar Audition Link: Link Other: Seventh Character, and possibly the last for a while.
So tell me a little bit about yourself.
Physical Aspects: Riku is slightly above average of stature and weighs average for his height and age. He has long-ish hair, which goes down to his upper back, a little lower than his shoulders. His hair slightly covers up his pale blue eyes. He wears a white vest that is yellow on the inside over a black shirt that zips up. He leaves this vest unzipped. His pants are baggy, blue jeans, with rather large pockets which are equal to one fourth the size of their entirety. He is only slightly tanner than he was a few years ago, due to using the darkness throughout all of this time. He also wears sneakers.
Persona: - Façade: Cool, calm, collected; these are all traits that can describe Riku. He is confident in his abilities; perhaps sometimes a bit too much so, as he can get a little cocky and--sometimes--downright arrogant. He is fiercely loyal to his friends, and is not afraid to push himself to his limits--or beyond--to protect them. He is a little too competitive for his own good; however, he has learned to use this to his advantage rather than let it work against him. He has a curious mind, which sometimes gets the best of him.
- Inner Mind: Riku, though he has grown out of most of it, can be quite jealous of Sora at times. The way Sora is able to make friends so easy, his strength of heart...all of it. He also has regrets, many of them, and his guilt piles up easily. He shows extreme remorse for actions he has done in the past, and resolves to make amends by working with, rather than against, his friend. He has matured immensely, and is much more understanding and forgiving of others than he once was; the hotheadedness of youth has begun to fade.

Destiny Islands, a paradise world, was where Riku started his life. He lived there alongside Sora, his best friend and rival. The two always trained together and pushed one another to be stronger, though the two were different. Sora seemed content with his life on the islands, happy to live in this paradise world. Riku wanted something different, something more. He wanted to go out there and go to new worlds, see what was out there and become stronger to protect everything he held dear. This was what he told Terra, the other seeing his potential and making him his successor. Their conversation was kept as a secret.
After that, a strange occurrence happened on Destiny Islands: one night, a meteor shower rained down. It was shortly after that a mysterious girl showed up with no way to return home. Her name, as Riku and Sora found out, was Kairi, and the three of them formed a powerful friendship together over the years. It was shortly after her arrival that Riku and Sora explored the Secret Place and found a secret door. Through this, Riku found the world’s keyhole, wondering again and again what was beyond that door and if it could possibly lead to outside worlds such as Kairi’s.
Their lives were pretty normal as they grew up, the real adventure beginning when the three of them decided to build a raft so they could go out and explore. His rivalry with Sora still continued to that day as well with fierceness; it was not only present in their training but in their friendship with Kairi as well. Riku was the most driven out of the three of them to leave the island; that much was obvious. It was his driven nature that caused him to pursue that door in the Secret Place once again, wanting to know the truth before he left the islands. He opened the door.
Chaos ensued shortly afterward, the Heartless attacking the island. Riku becomes separated from Sora and Kairi, appearing in Hollow Bastion after the island was destroyed. It was here where he met Maleficent, marking when he truly started down the dangerous path of darkness. Maleficent offered him a place to stay and protection. He took her up on her offer, letting himself slowly fall into Maleficent’s clutches. She starts convincing him that Sora has replaced him and Kairi with Donald and Goofy after Sora is seen with the two. He ends up meeting Sora in Traverse Town after the initial separation, though he leaves after holding Sora’s keyblade for a few moments without disappearing; this only foreshadows his destiny to become a keyblade master as well.
Over time, Riku convinced himself to start hating Sora and delve deeper into the darkness. He did meet Sora a couple more times, once inside the giant whale Monstro and the second time in Neverland. The first time he tried to convince Sora to help him save Kairi, though Sora saw his methods as wrong and refused. The second time showed that he managed to find Kairi on his own and he gained control over Heartless as well, something he got from Maleficent. He ends up taking Kairi with him back to Hollow Bastion where Maleficent is gathering the Princesses of Heart. It is when he comes back that Maleficent unlocks the last of Riku’s power, almost completely plunging the boy’s heart into darkness.
Sora and Riku meet again at Hollow Bastion, the latter’s power revealed as he manages to take the Keyblade from Sora, claming that he was the true master and that Sora was only the temporary Keyblade Maste. He takes on a new appearance as well as the dark power within him grows, though he does not manage to keep the keyblade for too long. Sora takes it back and drives him to flee. While wondering how in the world Sora managed to get the Keyblade back, a mysterious voice contacts him from the Darkness; that voice is later learned to be Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness or otherwise known as Xehanort’s Heartless. The mysterious voice takes a shape and gives Riku a Keyblade of his own, a keyblade created out of the hearts of six of the seven Princesses of Heart. He takes it, though becomes possessed by the voice in the process.
This Keyblade, unlike Sora’s, has the ability to unlock people’s hearts. With it, Riku unlocks the darkness in Maleficent’s heart, allowing her to transform into a dragon. She was defeated, which left the possessed Riku to have to deal with Sora. Riku, speaking as Ansem the Seeker of Darkness, was determined to use his Keyblade to unlock Kairi’s heart from Sora’s. He is defeated in combat, though Sora impales himself with the Keyblade anyhow. Sora disappears and Ansem seeks out to destroy Kairi, Donald and Goofy. However, Riku attempts to reject Ansem’s control, giving the others time to escape. This rejection of Ansem’s control only starts the beginning of a long term struggle between the two. Riku ultimately loses for the time being, allowing Ansem to gain full control of his body.
Fortunately, Sora is restored and defeats Ansem with Donald and Goofy at the Door to Darkness. Riku, and the King, are on the other side of the Door to Darkness, closing it together with Sora. Riku tells Sora to take care of Kairi and the door becomes closed, sealing it. Riku falls into a slumber after this, waking up in the Realm of Darkness. A Voice speaks to him, telling him that he can either sleep or he can go search for the truth. Riku chooses the latter, finding himself in the lowest basement of Castle Oblivion to start the next part of his adventure.
Remember that bit about that struggle between Xehanort’s Heartless and Riku? That becomes a main part of his adventure as he ascends through Castle Oblivion’s basements. Xehanort’s Heartless attempted to gain control of Riku once more, though Mickey’s light was able to come to his aid, helping Riku fend him off; however, the Mickey that appeared was only a projection. The Heartless left him with the ability to control his inner darkness. Riku also finds that he gained the ability to sense the scent of darkness, which angers him for the moment but comes in handy a bit later.
What Riku is unaware of is that Organization XIII members are considering using him to counter Marluxia’s puppet, Sora. In fact, Riku is completely unaware of Sora’s presence in the castle at all for most of his stay in Castle Oblivion. During this time, Riku meets three Organization members. Vexen was the first member he met, the Nobody only being cryptic with him during their entire meeting. Little did he know that Vexen was obtaining data on him to create a Replica. Riku ends up running into the Replica and defeating him. According to Xehanort’s Heartless, who appears again, the Replica is what Riku should be. Riku ignores this and continues his journey.
The second member of the Organization he meets is Lexaeus. He attempts to get Riku to accept the darkness within him, but Riku of course goes against that. The two fight, Riku winning at the end. He attempts to kill Lexaeus once and for all, but is knocked unconscious by the Skysplitter. Lexaeus decides to take him out instead of try and assuage him anymore, but Riku unexpectedly becomes possessed by Xehanort’s Heartless and kills him first, catching him off guard. This unexpected possession causes Riku to have yet another inner struggle with Xehanort’s Heartless, Mickey, through another projection, once again coming to his rescue before he can be completely plunged into the darkness. Determined, Riku continues his ascend through Castle Oblivion.
Riku meets his last member of the Organization shortly after he feels Marluxia’s powerful scent fade. He is quickly informed of whose scent it is by Zexion. Zexion also reveals to him that Sora is in the castle, but yet he asks Riku if he really wants to see him in his current state, mentioning the fact that Xehanort’s Heartless is still present in his heart. While Riku attempts to resist these statements, Zexion gives him a card that allows him to return to Destiny Islands. Riku, with nowhere else to go, goes into this faux Destiny Islands to see the “truth” behind Zexion’s words.
It is here where all of his fears are thrown at him simultaneously. Riku meets all of his friends on the island, though none of them speak and eventually they disappear. Zexion then appears shortly afterward, telling Riku that it was his fault for their disappearance and that he completely belongs to the darkness now. He is shown an illusion of himself standing on the island, but that illusion transforms into a Darkside Heartless, showing Riku what he has truly become. Riku managed to defeat the Heartless, though that is not the only fight he has to face. Sora appears on the island as well, telling Riku that he has to face the light and trapping him in it.
The light nearly nabbed Riku, Naminé appearing in the form of Kairi and helping him see that neither the light nor the darkness can defeat him, telling him that he needed to accept both of them to deal with his fears. It was through this that Riku managed to awaken his dark power and sense the darkness coming from Zexion and see through his illusion. He beat the Schemer back, though did not manage to kill him; his Replica saw to that.
Riku nearly made it to the main floor after that, though Xehanort’s Heartless came again for another go at him. King Mickey, this time coming for real, beat him back again and the two went to Twilight Town. He ended up meeting three people in this world. He first met Xehanort’s Heartless; Riku fought back by telling him that he is, in fact, not “Ansem”. He also met DiZ, the owner of the voice that started him on his journey in Castle Oblivion. DiZ told him that he has to choose between the light and the darkness since he is currently in-between, a decision that is has to be made by Naminé. The last person he met was his Replica, who attempted to kill him in order to become real. Riku finished him off for the last time, then going to see Naminé.
When he met up with Naminé, he found out about Sora and the situation surrounding him. She offered to seal Xehanort’s Heartless and his darkness in order to forget them, but he refused, wanting to win the battle on his own. He left Naminé and met up with DiZ and the King again, the former giving him a card that would draw out Xehanort’s Heartless. Riku used it to face Xehanhort’s Heartless one last time, the last of Xehanort’s Heartless destroyed after his defeat. His shadow, however, lingered with Riku as he faded one last time.
Riku and Mickey left Castle Oblivion together in Organization cloaks lent to them by DiZ. At this point, Riku told DiZ that he was not choosing the path of light or darkness, but ‘the road to dawn’. He and the King managed to get out of the plains, though Riku knew that he didn’t separate himself completely from the darkness inside of him. He left to help DiZ, separating from the King again.
Riku and DiZ had one common goal: to help Sora wake up. To help this, DiZ asked Riku to capture Sora’s Nobody, Roxas, knowing that if the two join, Sora should be able to awaken. Riku went to battle Roxas twice, the first time defeated. During the second time, he unleashed the darkness within him and took the form of Xehanort’s Heartless. He defeated Roxas this time, bringing him back to DiZ in their base in the old abandoned mansion of Twilight Town. DiZ put Roxas in a simulation of Twilight Town until it is time for him to meet Sora, Riku watching over him during that time and stealing a few items from the Nobody. He also made sure Naminé say anything to him, keeping the truth away from Roxas.
Riku ended up learning DiZ’s true intentions in all of this, which seemed to be only for revenge. He chose to take no further part in it after Roxas at last joined with Sora, not following the order DiZ gave him to eliminate Naminé. He instead handed her over to Axel, leaving DiZ. He met up with the King afterward once more, pleading with him not to tell Sora about his whereabouts or current condition. Mickey reluctantly agreed, leaving Riku to part ways yet again.
His whereabouts were truly unknown for most of Sora’s journey, though he did show up again to rescue Kairi from Axel. He took her to Twilight Town through a Corridor of Darkness, leaving her with Hayner, Pence and Olette. His attempt to save her seemed to be in vain, for Saїx managed to capture her and bring her to the Organization’s headquarters. Riku’s journey continued and he found himself in Hollow Bastion during the humongous Heartless battle. Sora, Donald and Goofy ended up in an empty realm where Riku appeared, leaving behind a box that contained Sea-Salt Ice Cream and a picture of Roxas, Hayner, Pence and Olette. He left without saying a word, not letting Sora know of his true identity.
He later turned up in the Land of Dragons in an attempt to warn the Emperor about a Heartless that Xigbar created. He ended up encountering Sora during this, who attacked him because of the Organization cloak. However, that attack was ceased when Sora saw the Soul Eater weapon. Riku went on to warn the Emperor about the Heartless and disappeared again, leaving Sora to figure out who he was from the Emperor’s description of him.
At long last, he came back to the World That Never Was after Naminé saved Kairi. Those two ran into Saїx, though Riku managed to save them with his Way to the Dawn, a Keyblade formed from the Soul Eater. His identity was revealed to Kairi as well as his current condition, which Kairi was able to see through and see the true Riku. The two of them went off to find Sora, attacked by Heartless along the way. He gave Kairi a Keyblade to fight with for the time being while Sora dealt with Xigbar. After said Organization member was defeated, Sora reunited with Kairi as Riku attempted to leave. However, she did not allow that, which led his identity and condition to be revealed to Sora as well. Sora was able to see through it and see the real Riku just like Kairi; they were all reunited at last.
The three of them ascended the Castle That Never Was together to defeat the remaining Organization members save for Xemnas. He was also reunited with the King and DiZ, who was revealed to truly be Ansem the Wise. Ansem was trying to encode Kingdom Hearts into data, though his attempt failed and caused the contraption he was using to self-destruct. The explosion cleansed Riku’s heart and returned him to his normal form. He, along with Sora, Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Kairi, ascended to the top of the castle to defeat the last remaining Nobody of the Organization: Xemnas.
The onslaught of battles the Keyblade Masters had with Xemnas will never be forgotten, the Nobody using the power of Kingdom Hearts to its fullest extent. At long last, after many different battles to get to him, Xemnas was defeated, Sora and Riku ending up on the Dark Meridian. The two of them reconciled and received a letter from Kairi that had been written long ago. Sora opened up the Door to Light, letting the two escape from the dark coastline and finally return back to Destiny Islands.
