AvengerWorld Description: Once a world flourishing with light, this world has fallen off its destined path. When the heartless first started to appear en mass, the military organization Orpheus rose to the challenge of keeping the world safe, keeping it from falling into the deepest darkest abyss. Their need to keep it safe, however, caused them to stray off the righteous path, falling to the darkness itself. Now, under the hypocritical argument that any weapon is useful, they have started to use even darkness itself as a weapon against it.
Geographically speaking, the world is comprised of several areas. The main city and its outskirts flourish with commerce and beautiful architecture, water canals running through it and offering a secondary means of transport through its different areas. The city itself is subdivided in three different sectors, each separated from one another by the three widest canals, only bridges and boats connecting them. These sectors are laid out in a circular fashion: the residential district lies in the south eastern portion, followed by the industrial district clock-wise, with the commercial district at the top end of the circle. At the very center of the circle, in its own little island, reside the fourth district, where all the political forces gather. While there are many buildings there, despite being the smallest of the four, is the most noticeable from outside the city due to its large edifications. In particular, the trinity of power stands out: The Congress, The Court, and towering over even those two large edifications, The Castle, where royalty resides. These three, and their once near perfect system, however, stand nowadays as just a façade, a front for those truly ruling over Eurydice nowadays.
Far from the city, in the green hills north from there, a large Fortress Castle can be found overlooking the largest cliff in Eurydice, aptly named The Abyss. These enormous fortress and its fields belong to Orpheus, the true force managing the world, ever fighting the creatures of darkness to keep its citizens safe. While that is an exceptionally noble task they imposed upon themselves, it doesn’t come without detriments. The
need to keep the world from falling to the light turned the highest ranks into fanatics, corrupting their hearts with light, for they believe they are righteous in their struggle with darkness, but so righteous that they can used that which they are supposed to loathe as they please.
On the eastern side, after several kilometers of empty roads, a mountainside can be found. While not hard to traverse at first, for the first couple of mountains are easy to travel through, those waiting beyond them are an entirely different matter. Not only are they much larger and steep than their predecessors, but they have proved a breeding ground for heartless. While heartless only breed by hunting for human hearts, the mountains, caves, and the fissure beyond them have proved to be the predilect place for them to gather and amass, the strongest of them all only appearing at the fissure. It is at the fissure that Orpheus saw its largest lost in man power.
Lastly, the last piece of land in the world known to man, south from the city and after a relatively long trail of green pastures, a barren soil where nothing can grow or live can be found. Only small animals that can survive of moisture alone and their predators can be found in this unvisited area, where nothing, not even heartless, bother showing up. It is truly an empty land no one would ever venture into.
Finally, the west and north-west side of the city is faced with a vast sea, the blue waters entering the land and the city itself through its different canals, providing with more than enough fishing points not just at sea but within the city itself, be it for either commerce or sport.
In terms of architecture, no matter how low the world or its inhabitants may have fallen, the city and the northern fortress remain impressive to anyone that visits. From the smallest houses in the residential district to the palace in the central island, every structure flourishes with either ornamental details or exquisite designs. The residential district is known for housing buildings no more than three stories tall, with terraces and balconies in most of them. Most are built in similar fashion, but the residents from each building always bring something that makes it unique, be it the unique design they requested for their windows, the scarce metal balconies with plants growing on them and their railings, or even their terraces or decks. Each and every one of them, while made around the same basic template of brown bricks and red tiles for the roofs, are unique in their own little way.
The industrial district is characterized by its large horizontal edifications and skyrocketing chimneys, almost constantly emanating white smoke into the air. The entire district is composed of large industries and factories, each of them taking the amount of space equivalent to one or several residential blocks. This, being where everything is made in the world, you can find the manufacture of thins as simple as shoes and clothes, to something as complex as Orpheus’ Gummy Ships and electronic equipment. Next, the commercial district is where most of the businesses open to the public are located, and its structure follows a similar pattern to the residential district, with the exception of certain square markets.
Finally, at the center of the city, where the political buildings can be located, The Congress and The Court can be easily be told apart by their adorned columns on their front, with large pearly gates behind them. The main difference between these two buildings is their geometrical shape when looking from above: The Court was built on a rectangular fashion, while The Congress is circular. Both also share the distinction of being found not on the main ground itself, but rather at the end of two long flights of stairs. After that, at the exact center of the city, The impressive Castle stands, used nowadays mainly for meetings between politicians and those in power; its pale beige towers looking over the city and imposing on sight. The Castle grounds can be found on their own little artificial island at the heart of the city, only accessible by the bridge that connects them and allows entrance through the gate, passing the towering walls that protect the grounds. Once inside the ground, long fields of grass and flowers can be found with paths crossing them over to the Castle itself.
The Castle-Fortress where Orpheus bases its operations north of town follows a similar structure to the castle in the town itself, with protective walls circling their grounds, but much larger and fortified, not to mention that they cover even more ground. The fortress itself doesn’t extend into the skies as much as the castle itself, only spanning three ground floors and two basements, but by being located at the highest spot in that land, it remains ever watchful of its grounds and the city itself. It’s architecture is also a couple ounces darker than any seen in the city, with gargoyles on the balconies and strange edged symbols decorating their columns and gates.
Current State of the World: Despite the heartless invasion and how their numbers had risen in recent years, Orpheus made sure to keep the city and their world safe. The city, where heartless can be found every now and then, always crawling in the shadows, are plagued with Orpheus soldiers and guards, tasked with slaying any heartless on sight and protect its citizens. While casualties are always around the corner, this has kept people from entering total panic, even if Orpheus is pretty much the one running the city, the plague of soldiers a constant reminder of that. It’s only a matter of time before Orpheus’ hold over the city turns to oppression. No one without authorization is allowed to leave the city, the population currently contained within its walls like rats in a cage.
