There are many things that are only in the universe of Kingdom Hearts; keyblades, Heartless, Nobodies and the like are some examples. We will explain them briefly here and how they affect the plot of Shades of Grey.
- Keyblades
These weapons are the central focus of the Kingdom Hearts games. Originally, the weapon chose few wielders, those with strong hearts and the ability to fight; however, in this plot, many keyblades are choosing wielders that are not necessarily strong of heart. The scale of balance is heavily tipping toward light because of this. They have many forms and various lengths and typically only one can be wielded at a time; the keyblade master has to be particularly powerful to be able to use two at the same time. - Heartless
These creatures, created out of the darkness that lingers in everyone’s heart, are what the keyblade bearers are up against. They have no heart, body or soul and are simply vessels of darkness. They come in many forms depending on what world you are on and are rather tenacious creatures. In this plot, the Heartless are not as plentiful as they were in Sora’s day, though they still frequent worlds; just in smaller numbers. It is said that the most tenacious of Heartless, the Neo-Shadows, still heavily frequent the World that Never Was. - Nobodies
Nobodies are the result when a strong-willed person loses their heart. They have a body and the humanoid ones seem to have souls, but they lack the heart to make them complete. Neither creatures of light or darkness, they are fewer in number than the Heartless and in fewer places. Their attacks are more organized than those of the Heartless and can be deadly. They do not have the power to collect hearts like Heartless do; the most they can do is slay the Heartless and that is all. - Gummi Ship
Made out of peculiar material, these ships are capable of traveling through space and visiting different worlds. The origin for Gummi Blocks is said to come from meteors, which occur when the door to a world opens. King Mickey was the first to discover such a thing and now anyone is able to buy one and pilot them. They are a more reliable source of transportation than Corridors of Darkness, though they are much slower. - Corridors of Darkness
These are unpredictable pathways that go between worlds, only used by the Heartless and Nobodies; others such as Riku and Ansem the Wise are able to use them, though this method of travel is not for everyone. For one, it is unpredictable. Secondly, these are pathways made of darkness; using them frequently could corrupt one’s heart. They are not easy to learn how to use or control. The only ones who use it today are the members of Organization XIII, the lesser Nobodies and the Heartless; not many like risking the use of them.
