His house looked just the same as it always had, cluttered and disorganized. The other members of the RGRC had a habit of staying here when they worked late, and, in fact, a few of them were laying around wherever there was space. The wizened old man slowly tiptoed past them, looking over at his cook pot, which seemed to be glaring at him.
“Not now, Hestia, I shall eat when I return.” The pot glared deeper. Merlin sighed. “All right, pour me a bowl of soup, my dear. My errands are not as important as food, after all.” The kindly man took a seat in one of the unoccupied chairs mingled about the place. Leon was snoring loudly with his face across the table, his arms crossed even in sleep. It was endearing, really.
The elder fellow's gaze returned to Hestia, the cook pot who had laid out in front of him a bowl and spoon. Well, the bowl and spoon truly put themselves in front of him, but Hestia directed, and that was the important part. As she poured the stew from inside of her into the bowl, there came a light knocking at the door. Merlin stood, slowly, not wishing to wake Leon and the others. Stepping over Yuffie from where she had collapsed on the floor the previous night, the old wizard opened his door to see no one standing there.
Of course, then he looked down. It was a little girl, and she looked rather famished. “Please sir...” she began to say, but Merlin cut her off, a caring look crossing his face. “Come in, my dear. I'll have Hestia pour you a bowl of stew.” The girl was about to say something, but instead nodded and walked in. Pouring himself a cup of tea, he turned to the girl. “Would you like one as well, dear?”
She nodded slowly, and Merlin poured her a cup of the tea. “Be careful; it is very hot. I've burned myself on it more than once.” Merlin remembered the events well; some of them were truly his fault, and some were sabotages by the furniture around his house. Carpet sliding beneath him, a chair tipping...all sorts of little acts of insubordination. They were lucky he was a nice fellow, or they would get a firm talking to...
Merlin looked at the stew before him, wondering whether it would be worth it to eat it, or if he should let the girl eat and get to work right away. His hat slid over his eyes. Glaring up at the garment, Merlin sighed lightly and replaced it upright on his head. Eating the stew slowly, Merlin turned to the girl, a kindly smile on his face. “Is there anything else you need, my dear?” She shook her head slowly.
“Thank you.” The voice was soft, but the words were heartfelt. Merlin smiled kindly, his face lighting up like a Christmas Tree. “No worries, my dear. If you ever need food, be sure to stop by.” After the girl had walked out of the house, Merlin's face took a somewhat serious look. “All right, time for all of the rest of them to get up. There's work to be done, after all.” The wizard looked around, seeing his wand over by the computer. Picking the wand up, the kindly old man pointed it at the objects currently holding his fellow Radiant Garden Restoration Committee members in their unconscious state, each in succession.
Suddenly, he spoke a rapid phrase of words, that sounded like gobbledy-gook to any who would be listening, excepting the phrase “higitus figitus” which could be clearly heard. The objects hovered a few inches into the air, and, with a motion from the wizard, as well as a nod and a wink, the objects dropped suddenly to their former positions, the unconscious individuals waking in a snap. “Now, it is high time for all of you to get to work. Up and about, move it along now!” He shooed them, looking over at Hestia as each of them yawned and stretched, going about their morning routines. “What are we going to do about them?” his look asked the pot. It may have been a trick of the eyes, but the rest of those gathered could have sworn the pot shrugged.
