A Quest For Power An Allegory by the One Who Saw it All
Castle Oblivion stood almost exactly as it did before the Nobodies ever laid their eyes upon it; ominous, eerie, yet almost hallowed. The white halls were empty, no longer with a flower strutting down them wearing a crown. No, the flower had wilted along with the lightning and the ice; the light saw to them, a part of the flame’s game. Not even the earth, stalwart and unwavering, was left standing; the darkness saw to him. The illusion, wily yet wise, was not too far behind; the flame saw to him to end the game. Memories were all that Castle Oblivion held now and that was all it would ever hold again.
Except perhaps… for one thing.
There was one thing remaining in the castle; a leather-bound book lied on the floor of the basement, forlorn and forgotten. ‘Ignes Fatui: Another Side’ could still be read on the binding, even though the book itself had gathered a fair amount of dust. The pages were slightly frayed, a sign of much use from its old master. Within those pages, one would never know the writings of the illusion, a man that was misconstrued by most, perhaps even by himself.
The book opened itself with its cover on the floor, its pages starting to flip from left to right as if a slow breeze was blowing them. The words and pictures contained on its pages were for all to see, yet no one was there to watch as the book continued. It seemed eager to get to a certain section, abruptly stopping at the beginning of a new chapter. There was a story to be told and it began here.
There was once a great kingdom. It was ruled by a man filled with wisdom and his people were the epitome of happy. He had what many could only fathom: a lively kingdom, friends and pupils, a beautiful castle, and a son. He was proud of this prospering land, not one thing out of balance and nothing to tip the scale… or so he thought. His son, one with keen eyes and a silent tongue watched as these very things became corrupted.
Darkness set into the land as a strange man started to tip the balance. He gained followers, the king’s pupils, to aid him in his effort, even the king himself. It was all due to the efforts of the son, not letting his tongue remain silent as he whispered sweet, persuasive words to the ruler of this fair land. The king followed, blissfully unaware of the impact his decision had made until it was much too late; the darkness was starting to block out the sun. He tried to forbid the strange man from going any further, but alas, he could not. Because of this, the king lost everything he once had: his castle, his son, his people, and his kingdom. All of them fall to ruin, the kingdom no more.
The strange man, alongside his followers, formed a new land far away from the fallen kingdom. Like the man, it knew nothing else but darkness and corruption, the sun refusing to shine upon it. Soon, he and his followers made a castle, though it did not shine like the other one. It stood tall above the rest of the land and quietly observed as more started to come in, more that were corrupted like these men. The son, no longer merely a boy, watched carefully as each one did. He was hesitant in letting others come to the castle, not knowing where these others came from or their intentions. He chose to wait and see what happened next in the story.
All of the corrupted men formed a group with a goal, all of their eyes set on one thing. Well, perhaps not all of their eyes. The son of the former king looked on to the strange man ruling this group, noticing his eyes were astray as well. He was not following the same path as the rest, a different goal in mind. The son looked to others of the group, some of them drifting as well. Two wanted power, one of them looking to the son himself while the other looked to the sky. Nonetheless, the son let the story continue even further, knowing that it would soon fall to shambles.
He found himself in the midst of a battle. The man that looked toward the sky wanted power no one else could offer, eager to rebel against the group that had formed for it. He worked to destroy what the son and the other original followers of the strange man formed. The son, with his calculating mind, forged a plan to stop this man from reaching his goal. Before his plan could be enacted, a flame interfered, causing havoc where it went. The man was destroyed by a denizen of light, the son’s plan stopped in its tracks.
However, the flame’s havoc does not stop there. The son never knew who the flame was serving, the man that had been looking at him before. Though, by the time he learned of it, it was far too late. He was caught after a failed plan, the flame trapping him without an escape. It was obvious how the end of this story was going to end; in order to gain power, sacrifices had to be made. This one, the death of the son, was just another step in order to achieve just that.
”So sorry, Zexion. You just found out way too much.”
The book stayed open, the next pages blank following the story. A pair of eyes stared at it from afar, studying it for a moment before walking over to it. Hands gloved in leather picked up the book and closed it, the holder glancing at the cover now. How long had it been since he had last seen it? Days? Months? Perhaps even longer than that. He could never be sure. The only important thing was that he had the book again and it would not wander into other hands.
”I wonder, will history repeat itself?” he asked himself, his tone low. He let the book disappear, now looking around the room. This was where the story last ended and would now start anew. However, this story would be much different than the last one. Zexion could not let mistakes happen twice. He had miscalculated before, trusted someone he should not have trusted. He should have known much sooner what was going to happen and prevented it. Alas, that was in the past and could not be changed. This time around, he would have to be much more careful.
”Did the others gain a second chance?” he mused again, putting his hand to his chin in thought. Zexion knew the fate of the Organization and knew that after the events of Castle Oblivion, the betrayals would only turn into an uncontrollable wildfire. The Organization had already been turning to shambles before he came to Castle Oblivion; tragic really. He doubted he was the only one who could have possibly returned; the odds were against that.
The Dusk that appeared in the room was also against that. Zexion cast his gaze to it, sifting through the silent words that it said. The Organization had indeed returned and was convening once again. All loyal members were required to return. Of course, that meant that he was leaving. Though, he would ask the creature a question before he excused it.
”Tell me, do you happen to know who else is returning? It would make me quite uneasy to know that this message was being delivered to the traitors as well.” The Dusk did not give him an answer, but he half-expected it not to. It would not know the inner workings of the Organization nor who was traitor and who was loyal. It only knew the command it was given, which was to deliver a message to all former members of the Organization. Zexion nodded in acknowledgement to the Dusk, the creature disappearing through a Corridor of Darkness to leave the Schemer alone in his thoughts.
”If the traitors return, then the Organization will surely fall again,” he said to himself, ”Perhaps I should take a more direct approach in preventing that.” It would be unwise to watch idly this time. Before, he had let his eyes do most of the work; he had done that from the very beginning when he was Ienzo. However, times had changed; things were not as they once were. That meant he needed to change how he reacted as well… or perhaps eliminate being reactive completely. No, he needed to be proactive this time. He needed to protect the Organization’s integrity as one of its most loyal members.
One of its truly loyal members; he would never count Number Seven as a truly loyal member again. Without another thought or word, he created a Corridor of Darkness. He stepped into it, vanishing from Castle Oblivion to hopefully never return.
[Yeah, I know it's rather allegorical and doesn't explore too much of his dialogue. I like it better than my other audition though and I hope you guys do too] [/size]

Well, I doubt you didn't already expect to hear this, but-- just in case, I'll go ahead and say it:
1/4 Re-Accepted (That's right, I said one-fourth)
I definitely agree with your feeling that this one is better than your other audition. Plus it fixes that little Ansem problem.

Well, glad to see this finally come up. I've been wondering when you were going to finish this xD
Since we're going by Matt's odd scale, I guess I'll have to pitch in my agreement with them and all for this AWESOME AUDITION!

4/4 Accepted and awaiting the 5/4 just to spite Aly.
What, I need to type something else? She already has Zexion for Christ's sake... Ok, fine.
This one is a Hell lot better than your old one, and the imagery used for most of the audition was excellent. Not as much dialogue as the old one, but that doesn't detriment from it in the least.
Congrats, you over achiver.
