This ability is the symbol of the bond created by Bahamut with Aerith, a bond called a junction, and it enables Bahamut to be called upon in times of need. When called upon, he is summoned to her side, and remains there for three of his posts, before leaving at the end of his third post--however, if pulled in for out-of-combat purposes, such as pure roleplay, the limit is not accrued. This can pull him out of any thread he is currently in, and allows for him to enter even closed threads.
