Audition: While the marketplace of Radiant Garden usually had a decent level of activity, this night there was little more than darkness and the sound of the wind.
An ideal environment.
Xaldin walked along the cobblestones, making as little sound as the air around him. He had been independent of the Organization since his return to life, and had encountered remarkably little in the way of problems.
Why should he have run into troubles? He was not weak, and he was not as brutally taciturn as some of the other members. If he wished to talk his way out of a problem, he could do so. If he wished to force his way through, he could do that as well.
The sound of steps behind him brought him out of his musings.
"Xaldin."
He had not heard that voice in what seemed like ages, but its blunt indifference was unforgettable. Xaldin turned to face the Diviner. "Saïx. What brings you here?"
"Working. Where have you been hiding?"
Xaldin smirked, a look that was wholly unpleasant and coldly mocking. "Still playing the lackey to the Superior. How noble of you to take the burden of licking his boots."
"You know that your words do not affect me, nor have they ever. Do not waste my time." Saïx was unmoved, his expression and voice as cold as ever. "Where have you been hiding?" he repeated.
Xaldin's smirk grew lighter, but did not fade entirely. "I'm not sure which is worse- a poor actor, or someone who simply refuses to act." The smirk finally dropped. "I have been working on my own. It is not your concern. You can report my continuing existence to the Superior if you wish, but I will not be rejoining."
Saïx was dimly aware that the conversation would be frustrating had he the ability to feel frustration. "Xemnas is dead."
"Ah." Xaldin's voice held no surprise. Surprise was not an emotion worth playing. "And you helped?"
"I killed him." If anyone else had said that, Xaldin could have taken it for bragging. However, coming from Saïx this was a mere statement of a fact.
Xaldin shrugged slightly. "I can only assume that the ranks were shaken. Vexen must be around. Did he leave, or did you kill him as well?"
"He is still there. The only people who are present are Xigbar, Lexaeus, Vexen, Zexion, myself, Axel, and two new members. Everyone else has left or has died. Lexaeus is the leader."
Xaldin nodded. "I see." Lexaeus, a leader? He had a commanding presence, but was not a leading type.
It will fall apart soon, most likely. Perhaps I should be there to witness the death of what I helped to build.[/color]
"In that case, I will perhaps reconsider my decision."
Saïx was obviously not disposed towards either him joining or not. "The Organization is in a precarious position, close to dissolution. It would be wise to include that into your decision." Silently, without any parting words, Saïx disappeared into a Corridor.
So Saïx had gotten out from under Xemnas's foot. Good for him, Xaldin supposed. It wasn't as though he liked or hated Saïx- the Diviner's work ethic was admirable, but he was about as interesting as a brick wall.
Xaldin stood there for a few seconds, then disappeared himself.
It was time to see what had become of Organization XIII.
