Hey, Emi here-
In the wake of some issues with using the chatbox, we have been messing with the idea of going back to the IRC chatroom. I'm here to get your opinion on the change.
Basically instead of a cbox at the bottom of the page, we would be switching to an IRC channel on a different site that we would be linking to. (I don't think we are going to embed it at the bottom of the site like we did before, as coding issues cause the page to jump down to it every time you go to a new page/refresh. Also, the embedded IRC chat logs you out every time you go to a new page/refresh because it needs a constant connection.)
Each kind of chat has their pros and cons.
Cbox
Pros: Convenient, Easy to Use
Cons: Not easily moderated, not real time, have to pay for decent features
IRC Chat Room:
Pros: Easy to moderate and control, real time (no pressing refresh), more features for less
Cons: You have to register (not hard to do) and you have to go through a separate site to keep the chat open.
Now, I understand there are those of you who can't or are not willing to download a program to use the IRC chat. I can suggest ways for you to access the chat without downloading anything. I can also give you a list of basic commands to use in the chat room. Trust me, if I can do it, you can do it.
This change will cut down on the amount of trouble from the chats because it can be moderated easily. Also, you can easily privately message a certain person just by double clicking their user name. We have used the IRC chat in the past and its a lot of fun and very easy to use.
Please vote in the poll and reply to this thread with any questions/concerns/opinions and I'll do my best to answer. Fate is very skilled with using the IRC chat and she can help you out as well.
In the mean time, I am posting a list of rules for the use of the cbox that are mandatory for you to follow. If in the future we DO switch to an IRC channel, these rules will be edited to use as guidelines for the use of that IRC channel.
