You'd think I'd be used to not doing anything by now. [August 10, 2010] --
At last, a place of solitude. Hopefully Xigbar would not destroy this one.
Zexion had decided to make this castle his semi-permanent location for now after coming here yesterday, no other place to go. The World That Never Was, that was out of the question to him. For all he knew, Xaldin may have taken it over with the Organization disbanded, or perhaps Saïx. Vexen might even be there as well along with his spy-- that's what Aixfeur had been after all. Either way, avoiding contact with any former Organization members for now would be in his best interests.
He sat on the stairs that led up to the second floor of the library, contemplating. He was antsy. He had spent the better part of two months planning and scheming, manipulating others, being active. Now he was left with nothing to do, waiting for something to happen. He almost wanted Xehanort to come back just so he could have something to do. But, that was unlikely. It would be impossible for him to come back, or so he kept telling himself; he wasn't entirely convinced yet.
He did the only thing he could do-- continue sitting on the stairs, writing in the Lexicon.

...anybody home? It was a rather quiet day in Radiant Garden. Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary, other than Arc himself. No one gave him any askance looks, though. They had seen much odder, and he was keeping to himself. Nonetheless, the lack of looks spoke volumes, as if they were all staring. It was worse, in a way. And so, the drakon kept moving, heading out of town. There was a castle here, and it was, from what he heard, abandoned. Except for the occasional Heartless.
But he could deal with Heartless. Arc almost wished to run into Heartless. The lack of them was unsettling, as if everything sat on the brink of falling into an abyss that none could see. His mind flashed back to his homeworld, and the sight of it being destroyed. Afterwards, there truly was only an abyss. Shaking his head slightly, he continued his walk, forcing the mental images out. It was of no use continuing to think of them; there was nothing he could do now.
At that, Arc realized he was nearly there. Watching his step, he walked the last few hundred feet and stood at the entryway of the castle. It was a monstrous structure, and he was rather impressed with the architectural design. Walking inside, he looked around the room. He was rather disappointed when no Heartless appeared. And there seemed to be no one around, either.
"Hello? Does this castle have any occupants?" he spoke up, to no one in particular. Perhaps someone would answer, or otherwise something would happen.

Good timing. --
Writing finished, and now he was staring at the words on the page. They stared back, telling him that he was being useless, sitting and doing nothing. He wasn't looking for a way to get his heart back but searching for someone who may or may not even come back; he should consider it a waste of his time. And his actions thus far? None of them helped the cause of getting his heart back, not even eliminating Xemnas-- that had only caused more problems than solutions. Now the Organization was disbanded and all of them were left to either find their hearts on their own, or continue to live a life of nonexistence and lack of fulfillment.
Was he blaming himself? Feeling guilty? Neither. Either way, these thoughts were interrupted by a scent wandering into the castle. It wasn't Maleficent or one of her pawns, or any other being with an incredible amount of darkness in them. He raised a single eyebrow. Arc? Well, at least he didn't have to go searching for the drakon himself. Odd place for him to be, though-- not many came to the castle.
He closed the Lexicon and let it disappear, walking out of the library into the Entrance Hall. Arc seemed to be asking if the castle had any occupants. Zexion would have laughed if he could; this castle never would have occupants again, not any like it did before with Ansem the Wise and the rest. "Not since this world fell, no," he answered, "Unless you count Maleficent and her pawns as occupants. Though, they seemed to have left."

No more chance meetings. At least one of us will see it coming. Surprise crossed his face a moment, but it was replaced by a small smile soon thereafter. Zexion. He had been searching for this Nobody in particular for a goodly period of time, and now he had found him, in a very unlikely place. This castle, as it seemed from what Zexion just now told him, was a place where Maleficent and her minions had lived, and before that, it remained unoccupied since before the fall of the world. But none of that explained why Zexion was here.
Regardless, it was good to see him well. The way the worlds had been recently, he hadn't been certain if he would find the Nobody intact or not. They had exchanged information between the two of them, and each had revealed a tragic past to the other. Arc supposed if the other had retained his heart, they would have been considered friends. Zexion lacked that, however, and so they were as close to friendship as one could come without an emotional bond.
"It is good to see you well, Zexion." Arc examined the Nobody a moment, noticing something out of place. It seemed the cloak had been abandoned. A sign? The Organization members had all donned that very cloak. Even after leaving, it was so much a part of them that none had removed it. "You are clothed differently than you have been in our other meetings." The book remained, however; from what he had seen, the Nobodies all had an item that they were bound to, as if it held a piece of their very soul. Or it was their soul. That was a bonechilling thought, the soul existing separate from the body.
Arc shook the thought away. It was not something he wanted to be thinking about. "The others of the Organization...have they also left it?" That was not what he had wanted to say at all. The feeling of the world teetering on an abyss had returned, and it threw him off. "Regardless, you have given me answers when I had none. When most would not listen, you opened your ears gladly."
Standing in the middle of the entrance chamber, Arc showed his trust of the Nobody. Easily, he could be surrounded and vanquished, but he knew for a fact that the other would never do such a thing. Other than the fact that he had no reason to, the drake simply trusted him enough not to believe it would happen. "For this, I name you friend. Should I succeed in returning Draconum to its former place in the sky, you shall be welcome among my people for as long as you exist."
His choice of words had a purpose. Nobodies tended to believe theirs was a form of nonexistence. Arc was informing Zexion, subtly, that he did not find it so, at least for this particular Nobody. "In addition, should you have need of my particular talents," Sacred Flame appeared in his off-hand, "I would be honored were you to call upon me." Arc recalled what he had done for Emi, using some of his scales as a method of calling. It would take him to her, were he in the ways between.
However, this was much more important to him. Reaching into his pocket, Arc pulled out a talon that had fallen off of one of his feet. A new had grown, but he had kept the old one. The appearance was as if it had been worked in burnished silver. "By the honor of the drakon people, and my own as a drake, I swear that the receiver of this gift is a friend to both. Should he need call on me, let him do so by tapping it three times upon stone, and whispering my name after each tap." The dragon-man tapped the talon on the stone wall before him. "Arcturus Draconai." He tapped it a second time. "Arcturus Draconai." The third tap was made then. "Arcturus Draconai." And it was sealed.
It was an old ritual, one that he had learned without even knowing why he had. But now it was useful. He turned to look at Zexion then. "It is attuned, now, to myself. If you tap this talon thrice, and speak my name after each individual tap, I will be led to where you are. If you would like to find me, it should have enough of my essence in it to track easily." And now, the problem of neither finding the other was solved. Arc proffered it then, holding it out for Zexion to take or not as he chose.
"I'd rather we not need have chance meetings every time we meet."

Is everything I say a lie? --
Yes, yes he was clothed differently. He didn't have much of a need to wear the Organization cloak, especially if he was trying to appear as an average traveler. Though, not many travelers had blue hair-- he might need to do something about that. And yes, the Organization was gone. He was about to say something, but it seemed Arc had more to say. That was only natural since the drakon had been seeking him out, not the other way around. Zexion never sought anyone out unless he needed them for something.
The words he chose to say next made the Schemer's eyes widen a little. Friend? Was he so sure he wanted to call the Nobody that? It wasn't as if he could reciprocate anything. Not only that, but he doubted Arc would see him as honorable if he told him the events that occurred directly after Emi had followed him into that Corridor. Or of the events involving taking down another Nobody and that Kingdom Hearts was a lie. That what Zexion had told Arc about Kingdom Hearts giving his world back to him was a lie.
Unless a miracle took place, Draconum wasn't going to come back any time soon. Even if it did, Zexion didn't exist. And he wasn't about to for who knew how long.
He continued to give Arc the same blank stare as he took out the talon and proceeded to a sort of ceremonial thing to it before handing it to him. If he ever needed Arc, he would tap the talon and repeat Arc's name. He nodded his head to show he understood, pocketing the talon. Now what should he say? Thank Arc for believing that he was actually a decent Nobody? This was one of those moments where a normal human being would have felt something, a friend doing something for a friend.
But he felt nothing, would feel nothing. "That would be for the better, wouldn't it," he said at first. He thought for a second. No, best keep the information about the lies to himself, and about what he had been doing the past two months or so. Arc had a bit of hope left in him that he could get his world back and Zexion didn't quite want to squash it yet. "Thank you, I appreciate this. Though, tell me, what made you want to seek me out?" Lying by omission? Things are not as they once were. Zexion was blank. Which was somewhat usual, but this level of blank was actually rather odd. It hinted at something behind what he was actually saying. And his first words in response? As if he did not actually believe it himself. Yes, there was something the Nobody was not telling Arc. Something that had lowered Zexion's image of his own self. What could it have been?
The Organization recently had dissolved, too, it seemed, based on the lack of a response to that. The widening of the eyes when Arc had called Zexion a friend implied that he was not used to that, at all, and was in fact surprised that it could happen. He obviously had low self-worth at this point. What could have happened to cause this? The drake could not figure it out, even after another moment's thought.
What made him seek the Nobody out? That was a question he was prepared to answer. Until he thought for a moment, and it was made readily apparent that he had no true answer for it. That led Arc to think; what had made him seek out Zexion? It was a combination of things, really, he supposed. Their first conversation was so...thought-provoking, and he had answered so many of his questions...
And he genuinely enjoyed the Nobody's company. "I sought you out because conversation with you is always worthwhile. You are one of few who are worthwhile that yet exist in the world sea." That was the most correct answer he could come up with, at least. Now, it was time to get to the bottom of Zexion's irrationality. Arc thought for a moment, choosing his words carefully, before speaking up.
"You are quiet. More so than usual. Your expression is too blank; as if purposely held that way. There is much you are not telling me. What is there that you hold back from me? Is it something you wish me not to know? I would prefer that you spoke your mind. If you wish to hide behind words and falsities, I do not fault you, however. Remember that I will yet listen to what you have to say."

You're too kind. --
Worthwhile conversationalist? Yes, Zexion supposed that was accurate. He did have a way with words, didn't he? That was an acceptable answer. Their conversation before had been very thought provoking, though far too many things had changed since then. Things that Zexion had done and at least one in particular he almost regretted-- he just might have if he had the heart. Arc still seemed relatively the same; ironic that the one with the heart that had ever changing emotions stayed the same while the Nobody shifted.
Arc seemed to sense that, unfortunately. Unfortunately, the drakon possessed the ability to read past the Schemer's blank face, though not enough to see what he was hiding at the very least. He wanted to know what it was though, and was letting the Nobody choose whether or not to tell all or continue to lie. Of course Zexion was going to take advantage of that. Arc may or may not like that, but he so kindly offered.
"Yes, I know this," he replied coolly, thinking. Which way to go, which way. Questions always worked. "Though, you've made me curious about something. Why do you feel the need to protect me?" He crossed his arms and looked straight at Arc, making eye contact. There was true inquisitiveness behind this question, as much as a Nobody could have at least. But Arc would see the deflection. Whether or not he would try to stop the deflection would be interesting.

An answer you require, and answer you receive. Paid. In. Full. Arc nodded. It was obvious that Zexion would have known that. However, the drake brought it up so that the Nobody would be reminded of it. If it was fresher in his mind, perhaps he would recall it easier, and would choose to trust him. It did not seem likely, now. Zexion led into a topic change, directly from his comment. It was a simple enough question.
And yet this seemingly simple question had deeper levels to it. What exactly was his reasoning? What would possibly make Arc want to protect this Nobody above any others? Thinking it through, the drake tried to put it logically in his mind, but there was no logic he could use to describe it. He did not owe the other his life, nor did he technically owe him anything for the information he had been given; they had traded information, and Arc had saved Zexion's life, if that had been in question.
And yet there was a reason, as illogical as it was. He had formed an emotional tie with Zexion. Arc knew this. Arc was certain that the Nobody knew it as well. After he had lost his world, and his entire people with it, the drake truly had nothing. And after this event, he had had no one to talk to, none who would lend him an ear, or look beyond his outward appearance, or very far, at least. Only Nobodies had, and the only one who talked to him without any expectation of gain was Zexion.
Even Axel, who was nice to him, had been looking for something from him. Demyx had been afraid of him--though he had a feeling the Nobody was that way with everyone he met. Thus, it boiled down to that one small, irrational thing. One little tie; one small bond. But yet, besides the little friendship, or its like, that he had with Emiline, he had naught else.
"When I met Axel, the first of the Nobodies I had ever met," he began, his voice quiet and his head angled to look at the floor, "he was kind to me, but he expected answers of me, and then when Sephiroth appeared, he expected my help in fighting. Both of which I would gladly have given, but this is not the point.
"When I met Marluxia, the second of the Nobodies that I was to meet," his voice gained a slight amount of volume, but only a little bit, and it had gained a strength behind it, a will, something intangible, something simply felt, "he demanded answers of me. He directly dishonored me by insulting my value. I was forced to attack him.
"I set about to cleaning the destruction our fight had wrought after his departure; this was when I met Demyx. He was afraid of me, and though I assured him I meant him no harm, he never quite became unafraid." Most would question what this meant, but Zexion, he knew, would know there to be a deeper meaning. Hopefully he would see the deeper meaning, and understand.
"I traveled the Ways, and they took me to a strange world, to the top of a clock tower. They took me to where I first conversed with you." Looking up then, Arc's voice returned to normal volume. His eyes met Zexion's, and the emotion shining in his eyes could not have been missed by the observant Nobody. It was hope. Perhaps it was foolish, but he hoped he had gained a friend of this man; Nobody or not, he was one who was worthwhile. In the truest sense of the word, he was.
"You did not make demands of me. You were unafraid of me. You did not make expectations of me. None have done this beforehand, excepting among my own people." It hurt, mentioning them, and the pain showed in his eyes for a brief moment, but he continued regardless. "Do you not understand? You fear me not, you demand not of me, you expect not of me. Without knowing it consciously, you have behaved as a friend would towards another, or as one of honor would behave towards another of honor. You treated me as one of yours; how could I do anything less?"

Oh now you're making me sound nice. That just can't be. --
His deflection had no attention called to it, Arc answering his question. He explained the other Nobodies that he met, Axel, Marluxia and Demyx, and how all of them either expected something out of him, had something to gain from him, or were afraid of him. And when he had met Zexion, the Nobody hadn't expected answers nor was he afraid, though the circumstances hadn't allowed for either. If Arc had come in the middle of a fight or if the Schemer had been able to locate him before the coup, or in any scheme of his really, he would have seen that Zexion wasn't above using anyone for gain.
He was giving him a hopeful look, hopeful perhaps that a friendship between them could actually work. Then he went on to say that the Nobody had behaved honorably, as a friend should. He couldn't stop himself from raising an eyebrow to this, though fortunately it was the one behind his mess of hair. It was true that he had done all of those things; the Nobody couldn't exactly show fear, though an accurate depiction he could provide if his nonexistence was being threatened.
He kept his arms crossed, thinking. He had to answer now, didn't he? "I suppose I understand, yes." Pause, then another thing to add. "Though, I wonder, would you still think the same if I asked if you knew how the Organization became defunct and leaderless?" He was pressing buttons now, asking this in a sly tone and with a bit of a grin.
All of these various things that Arc had been trying to get through to him, concepts of friendship made sense up to a certain point. They left out one crucial detail though: how well did the drakon truly know him. Yes, he revealed the tragic past of Ienzo and the experiments done, but Ienzo was a different person entirely, someone who had a heart.

You are nice. You just don't know it. On a side note, hearts can be returned. It's a coincidence that the power-hungry were given power.
This was not going well. Not at all. Zexion seemed to be in denial over it; he wasn't believing that Nobodies could have friends, and still felt he was not worthy. Arc could tell by his next thoughts voiced. It seemed Zexion had a hand in the downfall of Organization XIII. But why would he have done so? Arc thought for a moment before noticing the small grin. Obviously, it was a ploy to detract from the pedestal Zexion believed he did not deserve.
Because of this, he was trying to undermine Arc's opinion of him. The Nobody did not want anyone to think well of him, it seemed. Was he afraid of something? Perhaps so. A small smile spread Arc's lips, or their scaly equivalent. "You may stop trying to make me think less of you now. Why are you afraid of me thinking well of you? Is it because you no longer have a heart, and want to distance yourself from anything involving emotion?"
Immediately, he moved to a more offensive position. Speaking rapidly, Arc stared defiantly at the Nobody. "Or do you simply think yourself incapable of having friends? Hmm? Do you believe because you have no heart none may befriend you? Is there one you thought to be less for pursuing friends, and do not want to be hypocritical?" The drake remembered that Axel had destroyed Zexion's first Nobody incarnation, before an unexpected resurrection brought him back.
He kept going. Arc was going to show Zexion the error of his thoughts if he had to browbeat him for hours. "Do you feel unworthy of friends? Or do you perhaps think yourself above them? Are you one who believes he is superior to everyone, and above having friends and close companions who you trust beyond others?"
He suddenly seemed to back down, and said quietly, "Are you so far gone in your emptiness that you cannot remember what it is like to not have to distrust one every moment of every day, to have one you can confide in, one who will defend you without question, and who will save you from any harm, even at the detriment to their own well-being?" Arc's eyes were downcast, no emotion visible, but in his voice, there was a trace of sorrow, only a hint.

Just keep asking questions and avoid the pesky things called answers. --
Back to questions. Arc switched his tactic and wasn't playing nice with the Nobody any longer. Zexion didn't move as he talked, his arms staying crossed and his eyes still staring forward with the same emptiness. He wasn't going to react --couldn't react-- differently than this. A couple of the questions did stand out to him, however. The second question asked had an answer to it, an obvious one; he hadn't just pushed emotion away as a Nobody. In his current state, he could not even feel emotions, rendering them as useless and irrelevant. As a human-- no he wasn't going to bother with that train of thought.
He wasn't relenting either, continuing to ask question after question of the Schemer. Did he realize that getting angry with him, defiant, was going to do nothing except perhaps get the Nobody's eyes to narrow? Most likely. He also did not seem to expect any sort of answer, just continuing to, as far as Zexion could see, get a reaction out of him. Get him to change his thinking. Though, he seemed to cool after that, his tone becoming a bit melancholy. He was no longer keeping eye contact.
Silence boomed for a minute or so after Arc finished. Then, in a low tone, Zexion asked, "Are you going to let me answer now, or do you wish to continue?" Rhetorical question. He uncrossed his arms. "Nobodies cannot feel emotions, only remnants of them. Pretending that we can feel them without the heart is rather pointless." That answered the first four or so questions, or so he felt.
He paused, then smirking. "As for your last question, you speak as if that was something I once had, or that Ienzo had in his short lifespan." When living in Radiant Garden, one quickly learned that the kingdom was built on lies. Ansem the Wise wasn't a wise king, nor was he as righteous as he claimed to be. And his apprentices? None of them truly trusted one another, not in the sort of way Arc was describing. They had just trusted that Xehanort was right, that they were right, and that was it. None of them would have sacrificed a thing for each other.
Well, except for perhaps Lexaeus. He sacrificed himself for Zexion's plan in Castle Oblivion and even risked himself when going after Axel. He had blindly trusted what he was told every time, though Zexion wasn't sure why. "The only one who even remotely fit your description was used to help aid my plan to dispose of a necessary obstacle." He looked away. He felt nothing from betraying Lexaeus's trust and severing that tie, essentially making the Organization fall because of his actions. He felt absolutely nothing from knowing that Lexaeus could most likely never look him in the eye again and trust him.
Yet, he almost wanted to feel something from that. He looked back up at Arc. "All I ask is that before you trust me, you must consider the truth of the matter at hand. You are trusting a Nobody who would not hesitate to use anyone for gain. Are you sure that is safe?"

You gave more answers than you care to admit. Arc expected most of the answer he received. Zexion was nothing if not persistent. The drake stayed quiet. If Zexion wanted to answer him, he would; if not, the Nobody would try to distract him by wandering all over the place with his thoughts. Surprisingly, the Nobody actually did begin to answer his questions. But rather than truly spend thought on them, he tried his same truisms from before.
It was nothing more than facts that were spewed. Nobodies could not feel emotions. This was true, but the vestiges of memories remained. And yet, it seemed, Zexion had not held any close relationships as his Other, Ienzo. This was surprising. Though, not many recluses had friends, and less had those that were as close as his description had been.
Disposed of? Arc's eyebrow raised. He tried to make it sound worse than death, though Arc was certain Zexion was overstating it to cause himself to sound much worse than he truly was. The Nobody looked away at that. As if ashamed. It was better than nothing, and it was a start, in fact. Perhaps Nobodies were not the void they claimed to be.
His last sentences and question struck Arc and rolled off. Was he willing? More than such. But he asked Arc to consider it. The Nobody would not hesitate to use him, in whatever ways necessary. But were any not willing to do such? And was it any worse than people trying to use him while denying it? The drake was sure it was better to know it than not.
Looking Zexion in the eye, his face and eyes were devoid of emotion when he said, "Yes." It was an absolute. Conviction filled his voice as he spoke. "I understand that you would use me. But I have heard it said the sword is no less for having been used by a swordsman, so long as the swordsman appreciates the use of the sword. I am certain that as a sword and shield in your hands, I would be willing to lay down my own life."

You finally got through. Sort of ish. --
Zexion wasn't quite expecting that response. It was one of the ones listed in his mind as possibilities, but not the one he thought would actually play out. Arc stared straight back at him almost as a Nobody would, saying he understood that the Nobody would use him, comparing himself to a weapon in the hands of its master. The Schemer crossed one arm over his chest with the opposite hand going to his chin, his thinking position. Arc intended a bit more than to just be at the Nobody's beck and call.
No, he also intended to fight for him.
And lay down his own life.
That was possibly the one thing he did not expect at all. Though, would he refuse that? One would be a fool to do so. He nodded his head to this. "I understand now. And if I could be, I would be appreciative of this gesture." If he had a heart, he was rather sure he would at the very least. "Though, I doubt the circumstances will arise for that."
It was a good thing, at least for Arc, the Schemer avoided combat most of the time. Zexion may liked to have his pawns, but dead ones were useless. But, now that he had accepted this from Arc, what was there now? "Is there perhaps anything else on your mind? I am simply curious."

Swallow my doubt, turn it inside out. Find nothing but faith in nothing. Shock. That was a much better response than Arc had been hoping for. Even mere acceptance would have been a benefit to him, but the sight of shock in widening the Nobody's eyes ever so slightly for a moment was enough to almost make him smile. But that would have ruined the moment. Instead, he nodded in turn. If he could be appreciative...Arc wasn't so certain he couldn't be, but regardless.
Zexion had accepted the offer. There was not much chance that he would have declined it; however, the chance was there. And now it was not. Holding in his relieved sigh, Arc gave a small bow. "A sword in the hand of he who searches for what yet may be found," the drake murmured, just barely loud enough for the Nobody to hear. He knew Zexion had an excellent sense of hearing, though the sense of smell was better, and he spoke it gently enough to account for that.
"On my mind? There is not much at the moment. I am curious, though. Why did you partake in the overthrow of your former leader?" It was not like Zexion, regardless of how much he claimed otherwise, to partake in an advent not worth partaking in; in other words, he followed a system very nearly a code of honor. However much he claimed friendship was not between them, two men of honor, at the very least, could claim a tenuous friendship.
It was for the Nobody to respond, though. Would he react to the murmured comment? Arc wondered.

Some explaining to do. --
"Hmm? Did you say something?" Arc said something as he bowed to him. Zexion couldn't quite hear it, but he narrowed his eyes all the same. Arc might not have wanted him to hear it, so he didn't question it, but kept his eyes like that until after he was questioned. Why did he partake in getting rid of Xemnas? Ahh yes, he had been asked that question before. He relaxed his gaze, letting his arms fall to his sides.
"The answer is very simple," he said at first, "I found out that Xemnas's true goal was not to gain his heart back through Kingdom Hearts with the rest of the Organization. He intended to use it for power, which he had done the first time Kingdom Hearts had been completed." In the air, he created a small illusion, much akin to the one he created in the sky in The World That Never Was, in front of Arc. "Had we completed it again, he would have done the same." The illusion vanished.
Of course, there was more. "I planned for his disposal as soon as possible. I worked with two others, Axel and Saïx, to do so and coordinated attacks. The first thing I did was make the Superior, and the rest of the Organization, believe Axel was dead so it would not be suspected. I staged a battle between Lexaeus and him and made Axel appear to fade. Lexaeus believed this and reported straight back to me."
He glanced away for a brief second, remembering that exact report. The Hero had almost seemed skeptical of the entire event, but was blind to what Zexion had done. Then after that, when he was caught, Lexaeus could barely look at him. Understandable, but it needed to be done. He continued speaking. "Shortly thereafter, the three of us did what was necessary and disposed of Xemnas. Lexaeus attempted to lead after, but he left and the group disbanded. Now all of us are left purposeless, not even knowing how in the world we'll be able to get our hearts back."
That was all. His arms were crossed, his eyes on the drakon. What would he think of that? Would he think that what Zexion did was right? That by using Lexaeus to make his plan work, it was for the better? He was curious, standing completely still as he waited for an answer.
