Experiment #67
Male subject, apprx. thirty years of age, is exposed to large quantities of darkness. The supposed theory is that by exposing their hearts to only Darkness, while not having aforementioned hearts stolen by Heartless, that one can create a new breed of Heartless. Previous experiments have all ended in failure with the birth of P.B. Heartless. X. and I. conducting.
Ten minutes in experiment, the subject is showing the initial signs of discomfort. Attention of P.B. Heartless in room is drawn to the subject, though they remain docile. Subject has begun to sweat, and its skin is paling.
Twenty-five minutes after exposure, the subject's voice has grown hoarse. Primary iris saturation is apprx. 50% between amber and blue. Breathing has staggered, and its mental state has begun to deteriorate. P.B. in room are becoming excited. The following twenty minutes have proven crucial to the experiment's outcome.
Thirty minutes. Subject has lost the ability to speak coherently. Heart rate has surpassed 150 bpm. All vitals within acceptable parameters. Skin is now white in color.
Thirty-five minutes into exposure. Subject's mental status has reverted to its primal state. It has begun attempts to break out of the cage--normal for all previous subjects. No sedatives need be used for the moment. Iris saturation is apprx. 75%. Skin has begun to darken.
Thirty-nine minutes. Subject has begun to fall in and out of consciousness. Mental state shows surprising lucidity as subject begins to mutter nonsensically when before was silent. Only observed in previous, though sporadic, experiments by A. and E. This is the sixth subject to show such behavior.
Forty-two minutes. P.B. Heartless have become ravenous, attempting to free themselves from their containers. Subject's respiration has slowed greatly, as if in a state of deep sleep, and heart rate has been reduced to 15 bpm. This is a new development compared to all other subjects. Iris saturation is now at 100%, and skin is approaching black.
Forty-five minutes. Subject is showing astounding resilience in resisting the effects of long-term exposure to Darkness. Most subjects became Shadow Heartless within forty minutes. All signs of life in subject seem to have halted as the body is consumed. The outcome of the Heart is
Forty-six minutes into experiment. Subject has become P.B. Heartless. Subject will be studied periodically over the next 24 hours for any new developments, however slim, and then used in further experimentation by B. and D.
Xehanort stared, emotionless, at the cage where once a man was imprisoned. It was pleasing to his ears once silence had overtaken the man's cries, replaced by the Shadow Heartless', contained in various glass tubes, clawing at their prisons, hungering for the man's heart. He turned towards Ienzo, who had been hurriedly scribbling the effects of each of the Heartless in regards to the subject's state.
He glanced at the clock, reminding himself of how suspicious Ansem was of them, and how restricted their time had become lately. They couldn't continue to do these tests in secret--no, their misguided master needed to be removed. Soon. His restrictions had been severely hampering their testing. Months of experimentation could have been done in weeks without such insolence.
Turning around and walking out the door, he nodded at Ienzo, conveying the need to hurry in documentation. As the door slid shut behind him, he looked down at his records and scribbled in the top margin:
